We will be making our first trip to disney in Dec. Do to a back injury, I have decided to rent an ECV (from a DIS recommended supplier) for the week. I won't have to have it all day every day but I would like to have it with me or at least close by in case I need it. I don't want to have to go back to the room to get the ECV everytime I get tired. Is there a place in each park where you can park the scootie for awhile if I want to walk for a bit??

I know that other amusement parks with my personal scootie I usually tie it to a lamp post or something with a bike chain. Not sure if Disney would allow that or not. ????

It will just be my DD4 and I on this trip, so just letting someone else ride for awhile isn't an option.

no disney will cut the bike chain if you lock it to their property but if you want to lock the wheels then your fine.

That's something I never thought about doing. Is there ever an issue with scooters being stolen? I always figured if you take the key you're Ok.

just to caution everybody they will cut the lock guest do it with strollers to come back and find them cut and the strollers moved to stroller parking. I don't want anyone having their property broken while on vacation.

I wanted to make sure you didn't think I was referring to the key to the lock when I said I'd take it with me. I meant if you take the key to the scooter, is there really any need to lock a scooter? I can see that people might be worried about strollers though...it would be easy for someone to walk off with one.

no sorry i know what you was saying taking the key out of the scooter is a good idea. I just didn't want anyone to get their property broken because lots of people suggest that for strollers. If guest are afraid they could park it a location that out of the way and take the key with them.

I've been reading this forum for awhile, and never read about a scooter being stolen. I just take my motor key with me, it's on a wrist strap. No further security is needed for parking your scooter, IMO. One thing I do, tho, is cover the steering column and seat if it looks like rain, and I won't be back to the scooter for awhile. Fla. is famous for those spontaneous showers.

Disney scooters, if they appear abandoned after the passage of time, may be returned to the scooter corral. In that case, you can get a replacement one, if one is available.

When I used one last Oct. (recovering from a broken ankle), I just parked it in an out of the way place and took the key with me. Now I didn't leave it for hours or anything like that but I never had a problem. In March when we were down my DH rented one and did the same thing. He has bronchial asthma and can walk limited distances so we didn't venture too far away but had no problem.

My partner and I always rent scooters but we mainly use them to get around the park, not for lines. I rarely if ever use mine for a line as I'm uncomfortable with maneuvering in queues with it. If we get ready to walk or park in a section we usually park it in a section designated for stroller parking.

I have been renting a scooter from Walker Mobility for several years - highly recommend them. What I do sometimes is let someone who is with me ride the scooter for awhile, so I can walk. Maybe you could let someone with you ride it.

Take the key with you and you will be fine. If you lock the scooter to something, security will cut the chain and move it, just like they do with strollers. I saw security doing this with a stroller once, so this is not just "urban legend."

I have had someone take my ECV by mistake on two occasions. Once was at the Contemperory. After eating at the Cali Grill we went down to the designated parking place and my EVC was gone. There was only one there after dinner and it was not mine. It was the same rental company that I used, so o called them, left a message and took the only one left. The same thing happen ay AK at the Safari.

On both occasions I took the key. Now when I rent an EVC. I put ribbons on the basket and when I park it, I pull down the seat and tie a ribbon across the handles. Now, if someone walks up to my EVC they will be able to tell easily that it is not theirs. BTW, it's lime green ribbon

I would suggest that you use the scooter to go from land to land and then park it in a stroller parking area. The security people dont really move them from the stroller parking areas. Then it is close by if you need it and you are free to walk around the area.

Walker mobilty actually put your name on the scooter so you can know which one is yours. One suggestion I read is putting a poncho cover over the scooter which protects it if there is a sudden downpour and also makes your scooter more personal to you.

Not that surprising it happened with a gazillion rentals that all look a like (or at least per company do). One has to be aware that the "key" is not a key in standard defination we know it as like a key to your house, car etc. An EVC "key" is nothing more than a piece of equipment to cause a "closing of powercircuit" that is needed to get the thing moving. Any and all things made out of the right material and right size can do this. Or in other words; Annies "key" can also start up the ECV that Bob rented from the same place and Annie will have no clue she made a mistake if she never looked at the ECV-number. After all; ECV's get moved around at WDW all the time, so she wouldn't be alarmed when taking an ECV from a different spot than she parked it in.

Above explained can be (and has been) used to steal ECV's. All way too easy. In practice it very rarely happens in the parks, if it even does. Never read a report of it. On that regards I wouldn't feel any unease with leaving an ECV in a properly lighted out of the way area for a moment while shopping, eating or riding a ride.

Thanks. Great info. I've always taken the key for my personal scootie at other amusement parks but wasn't sure if the rented scooties had the same key or not. I didn't realize that WDW had specific parking places for them. I will definitly take a rain cover and something to "personalize" it so that it doesn't get taken by mistake.

Since your 4 year old won't be in a stroller, I imagine you both will be taking quite a few breaks/stops during the day as she may need a rest...thus your touring likely will be in spurts.

This will work for well for you both. Have a great trip!
