My husband and I are planning a trip to Disneyland in February. We want an inexpensive hotel close to the park. Does anybody have any suggestions on which hotel is better between Park Vue and Desert Inn?

I have not been to any but the reviews on Park Inn are getting better as time goes on. We booked ours for April. The price is right and its close.
Something I am realizing is that everyone has an opinion. I will say that they have answered all my email no matter how minorand were VERY polite.. Yes the have wireless internet for a SMALL fee and an in room safe for every room, again min. fee.
From what I have read Breakfast in simple. But for my family thats fine. All we need is enough to hold us over untill we can get to disneyland.
The other I cant say
Just something to think about.

The Park Inn is a different hotel than the Park Vue, just incase you didn't know that.

I have stayed at both the Park Vue and the Desert Inn (staying there this weekend again) and I would definitely pick the Desert Inn. They are right next door to each other but I like the rooms at the Desert Inn better. There also was a lot of construction going on at the Park Vue when we stayed and everytime we have walked by it since! Not sure if they finished last month but you may want to take that into consideration.

I would stay at the Park Vue again if necessary, but the room seemed older and dingier than the one at the Desert Inn. FYI the Park Vue DOES NOT have elevators at all so if you have a stroller, you must get a 1st floor room.

Sorry I did mean Park Vue Inn. but as I said I have not been there YET.

Tirby - Oh no problem! Just sometimes it gets crazy because there is the Park Vue, the Park Inn and the Parkside Inn and Suites. I mean how many can have practically the same name right? Very confusing. I feel bad when I hear people read reviews for the Park Vue (which I have stayed at and is fine for the $59 we paid!) and they are actually booked at the Parkside Inn (which is not right across the crosswalk and gets pretty terrible reviews consistently.)

Just wanted to make sure. The Park Vue is close and it was a fine hotel, enjoy your stay there in April!

Park Vue Inn is right next to IHOP and at the walkway to DL right? Just to be sure I have the right one! we booked for $74 I think.

Yep that's the one. Also I am sure you knew, but kids eat free at IHOP everyday after 4pm.

No I didn't know that. Is there an age on that? We like in a little hick town in Idaho no IHOP here LOL(ok it's not that little but you get the picture)

I think the age limit is 9 or 10, so it works out pretty well for us. Hope it will help you a little!!

Nevermind, I just looked it up for you and it is 12 and under!!! Even better!

Just realize that the prices are higher at that IHOP than other ones and we did not care all that much for the food. We still got the kids eat free though. That is the only way we would have done that.

About the two hotels. We have stayed at Desert Inn, and it was nice. Our thing with Park Vue is they have people standing outside selling timeshares as you walk by. That is very annoying to us. The hotel has been under construction for a couple of years, and I have read if you stay in a newer room they are nice. Personally, I think it boils down to cost on your end. Also if you can get a room towards the front of the hotel vs. rear for walking purposes.

Either is fine for us. Since we travel as a pack, DI&S works better for us because of the room size. For two people I go for price.

In EITHER place, I'd suggest a room closer to the hotel office. They both go back pretty darn far, and at midnight it is like adding another 6 miles to your walk. Ok, so i exaggerate, but you get my drift...

We've stayed at the Desert Inn 3 times. The first two times were fine. The last time was in the summer of 2005 and it wasn't OK. We got one of the rooms that's all the way in the back and it was a long walk out to the street that faces Disneyland. We also didn't get a suite that time, it was a regular room with 2 beds. I think the suites are nicer because you get an extra room with a couch and TV.

The biggest problem we had was at check out. We were leaving close to the 11:00 a.m check out time. We were scheduled to board the Disney Magic in L.A. at 1:00 p.m. for one of the special cruises to Mexico. We were just taking the luggage down to the car and there were 2 more bags in the room. At 10:56 a.m., my card key wouldn't work. I had to walk all the way to the lobby. They said the card keys stop working at check out time. I explained that my key stopped working several minutes before check out time and how annoying it was to have to walk all the way to the office to get it reset just so we could retrieve our final 2 bags. The desk staff was very rude, cut me off in mid-sentence. They reset my card and tossed it back on the desk. Then I had to walk all the way back just to get the last 2 bags.

We will not be staying there again! Another guy had just stepped outside to smoke and his door closed behind him. Imagine how annoyed he was when he had to walk a mile to get his key reset!

Thanks for all of your help! I have a room reserved at the Desert Inn and Suites and it sounds like I should keep that reservation. Besides, it is only $59 per night!

We're just home from spending 21 nights at the Park Vue Inn. I'd never consider staying anywhere else again. We got it for $63 a night, including breakfast.
Its a shorter walk from there than it is from the Grand Californian where we stayed last time. The rooms at the Park Vue, were great, beds comfortable, rooms clean, staff were excellent. Breakfast was ok, plenty of pastries, fruit, cereal and toast along with coffee and juice. If you want a change go to IHOP right next door. The hotel is small compared to most along S.Harbor but you can get better service and its more personable. We just loved it, and you can sit out at night on the roof and have a great view of the fire works if you don't want to go to the park. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Just back from another stay at the Desert Inn and Suites! It was still fine, and for a 4 queen / studio sofa sleeper / 2 bath room for $129, we got a great deal! Didn't have any problems at all. I think it's probably my favorite offsite restaurant.

Yes the IHOP there is more expensive than a regular one, about $2-3 more per meal. But when you get a $6.99 kids meal for free, you still come out ahead. I got a steak sanwich and fries for $10.00 and the kids meal was free so it was like two meals for $10. Not too bad. It's not my favorite place in the world, but it works if you have a lot of hungry kids with you like we did!

PS, we'll be there again in February from the 6-10, when are you going???

We were very happy with our stay at the Park Vue and would recommend it to friends and family. We have never stayed at the Desert, but hardcore Disney friends have said positive things about it.

We have stayed at 3 different places, we stayed at the grand californian and while it is wonderful its just too expensive for extensive stays. We stayed at the Holiday Inn, too far away, standing around waiting for shuttles is a waste of time...and then the ParkVue, i will never stay anywhere else...I love GCH but its the park vue for me.
