Park Vue Inn vs. On site Disneyland hotels

I'm hoping someone can give me their opinion and some insight! I am currently booked at the Park Vue Inn for Thursday December 10th to Monday December 14th. It's just a short trip I wanted to take to see Disneyland for the holidays!

For anyone who has stayed at Disneyland, is it really "worth" paying an extra $700-$1000 dollars to stay at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier?

Ideally, I want to be super close to the parks & I don't necessarily spend hours in a hotel if its just a basic hotel, just really to eat, sleep, & spend all my time at the parks from open to close.

And for anyone who has stayed at the Park Vue Inn recently or in the past, what was your experience like?

I look forward to reading your opinions :)

If $$ is an issue, definitely stay at the PVI. We stayed there this summer, and I would not hesitate to stay there again. I have stayed onsite, and for me the cost is not worth it for EMH and a place to sleep and get ready.

PVI is very close, but when we stayed there it was not the cleanest place and our air conditioner blew hot air instead of cold. Our room was like an oven. I personally would not stay there again.

I've stayed at Paradise Pier once (last minute trip and no where else to stay) and at Park Vue Inn three times, including a trip last weekend. I would definitely recommend PVI over Paradise Pier. All the rooms were remodeled in 2014. I honestly felt like it was a nicer room than Paradise Pier and so much closer and cheaper.

I just look at those prices for the Disneyland hotels and it just makes my head spin! I could spend a whole week in Disney World for the total cost of staying at the Disneyland Hotel for a few days. Which sounds sorta crazy haha

I always second guess myself so this is super reassuring! :D

I haven't stayed at PVI yet, but we will be staying there in November. We have stayed at the DLH and GCH in the past. They are great hotels and I really like staying in the Disney "bubble," but we decided to try an off-site hotel for this next family trip. We are going to have a three queen suite and still the cost at PVI is only half what we would pay at the DLH. I'd recommend reading the last month or two of reviews for the PVI on TripAdvisor. I'll include the link here if I'm allowed -http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g29092-d75697-Reviews-Park_Vue_Inn-Anaheim_California.html (or else you can just search it). The reviews have made me feel very justified in picking PVI over DLH.

I have stayed at the DLH and the GC. I have also stayed at the PVI a few times. I will never stay on site again. I like the PVI. It is an older motel but my rooms have always been very clean and the staff is amazing. Breakfast is great and the beds are super comfy.... and so close to the gate.

I've stayed at PVI several times... Twice in 2013, and twice in 2015 (possibly 3 times in 2015). It tends to be our go-to hotel.

Some of the many benefits of PVI, compared to PPH:
--Closer to the main gates of DL/DCA
--Large rooms
--Usually several hundred dollars cheaper over the length of the vacation (that's a lot of extra Dole Whips and Churros!)
--Recently remodeled (2013-2015)
--Hot breakfast (we've had scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, waffles, fried potatoes, bacon, sausage, cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast, etc)
--Small hotel footprint (so you won't see the front of the motel and still have a heck of a hike to get to your room)
--Cheaper drinks through the vending machine ($1.75 at PVI vs $3.25 at DL/DCA for a 20-oz soda)
--Only 2 stories, so no waiting for an elevator to go up and down a ton
--Swimming pool and hot tub are clean, and rarely busy
--Offer a "returning guest" discount when you call to book (which takes off a fair amount--last time, about $30/night over the online price)
--10% off at Cold Stone Creamery (ahhh, so nice at the end of a tiring Disney day to get an ice cream on the way to my room!)

It seems like there's fewer benefits (as I see it, at least) for staying at PPH:
--Extra Magic Hour each morning
--The "Disney Bubble" (which, it seems, would likely break as you are crossing the street to PPH anyway?)

I hesitated the first time I had a ressie at PVI. A frequent poster here had an experience with bed bugs at PVI, and the management didn't deal well with it. But, they had the set up we needed (specifically, a separate sleeping area, as DD will not sleep with anyone else in the same room), so we crossed our fingers and prayed that it would be okay... And we found an amazing suite, newly renovated, with an electric fireplace, a stocked kitchenette, amazingly comfortable beds, and fluffy towels that cover our ample rear-ends. They called nightly to make sure everything was okay with our stay, and when I realized I had left my wedding ring on the counter after check-out, they unlocked our room for us, and then looked for the ring with us (and they found it! Yay!). When we stayed a few months later, there was a minor billing issue--namely, my dad was trying to call to pay a night of our stay as a wedding gift, and they wouldn't let him "alter" our reservation. Once I got him on the phone, and handed my phone over to the worker, explaining what my dad wanted to do, they took the information, charged him correctly, and took the amount off our bill. Easy peasy. Our room wasn't updated for our second stay in 2013 (it was the Jacuzzi room)--I've since seen updated pictures of that suite, and it's been fully remodeled. My third stay was a solo trip for me--as always, it was a quick check-in, I had a great discount, great customer service. My 2-queen room was upstairs; not my favorite, but I have bad knees, so the stairs were tough at the end of the day--that being said, I had checked in late, so I knew that I might not get a "great" room location). Again, it was freshly updated. Our most recent stay--in June 2015--we had another updated suite that was very nice.

I have some pictures of the rooms if you want to see them, but, honestly, the pictures they show on the website are surprisingly accurate!

We just stayed at the PVI for a week at the end of August. We are actually very pleased. Yes, it is an older motel. However, they have done a great job with the remodeling, the room was always clean, the hot breakfast was great, and we had no noise issues. Our first night, we watched the fireworks from outside our room (could have watched through the window, but it was fun to stand out on the balcony. The little store was also super handy... we made a grocery store stop for food, but forgot to get plates or bowls, so when my husband went to the little onsite store to buy some bowls, they just handed him a stack from their supplies. The also had an eyeglass repair kit that saved us when my sons screw on his glasses frame popped out. While I think it would be fun to stay in the DLH,PPH, or GCH, we just could not justify the price, and we felt like we got everything we needed at the PVI.

I can afford to stay at any of the hotels but we stay at PVI or BWPPI because they are a better all around value for us.
Now that may be different if we spent a LOT of time at the hotel or it's pool but given the fine accommodations of either of these hotels, they work great.

I would actually love to see your pictures if you don't mind :D ! And it sounds like you a great experience staying there which makes me feel much more comfortable with my choice for sure.

I would love to see pictures too! I'm trying to decide between PPH concierge and off site (since, as you said, that's a lot of Dole Whips :D )

Well dang, I checked with PVI for our dates (December 5-20 somewhere in there, we are flexible) and they are WAY cheaper and closer to the gates than PPH. So... sorry Disney, but I'd rather stay longer. Booked the 2 queen room. How often do the suites come available? I'd be interested in booking one.

Exactly! I mean if we can stay longer by staying off site & across the street, that alone makes this hotel more appealing!

We were looking to stay at PVI for our trip next year but they didn't have any rooms anywhere near the dates we can go so we'll be staying on site. Sure its a heck of a lot more but my kids don't need to go to college right? :earboy2:

I'm at work right now. I'll post the pictures tonight. I know I have pictures of the 2 queen suite, and the jacuzzi suite. I'll see if I have the 2 queen regular room as well :)

Call and ask! They often don't have rooms online, but when I call, they find one... And for a better price!
