Park Tickets, Upgrading to AP, & multiple trips

We are going down in Nov so I was planning on buying park tickets far enough in advance so we could do FP+. Then while down there, I wanted to upgrade to APs since we are headed back down in Dec. But now I'm thinking that won't work because I won't be able to do FP+ for Dec at the 60 day mark (since I already would have made my FP+ for the Nov trip)....is that right?

Do I have to go ahead and buy the APs now? Gosh, I was hoping to spread the cost out some. If I have to buy the AP all at once, what's the effective date of that? Is it the date I buy, or the date I first use it?

You could buy hoppers now and then upgrade them to APs in October before you hit your 60 day mark. You don't really have a lot of time now to space them out. You could upgrade some in Sept and the rest in October. But like you said you'd have to have them all upgraded before choosing fastpasses.
