Ok, I am going to Disney World (WILDERNESS LODGE YAY!!) in October 2002...yikes!

The only thing making that wait bearable is that I will be there in one month at the MVMCP :)

Anyway the point of this post is this...I have to be in Toronto, Canada in May of 2002. Can I buy my park tickets there then? Are they limited to Canadian citizens??

Any help you can give is great!

Kami

Hi Kami! You can buy the normal passes up here(the 5 and 7 day hopper pluses)The only ones that are restricted to Canadians only are the special buy 1 get one for half price. But they wont be available in May when you visit.

Hi

I have a question. Why does Canada get discounts we don't get? Is it cheaper to buy tickets there?

I believe they do this in order to get us Canadians to travel down to Florida. With our dollar worth so little compared to the US$,they give these price breaks for a few months every year.

HI

I hope you don't take this wrong, but i think that disney should give us all discounts. I am sorry if Canada dollars is smaller than ours. But my dollar is also not as much as others. For me to take my son to disney is very hard and i am also looking for any discounts available. I just feel that what is fair for one should be fair for all. I know that florida residents get discounts that is because they live there. Well i live here in the USA and i want the same discounts as other countries.

In defense of my close Canadian neighbors...
The Candadian dollar is only about .50 on the American dollar give or take a few cents depending on the day.

In my opinion, they should be getting these discounts year round instead of a few months a year if Disney wants any of their business.
I think it is totally fair to them, that they can get this discount.

If our dollar value gets cut in half, then I would agree, we should be entitled to the same discounts, but until then...
;)

Thanks for that Disneydreamerinny.I wish our dollar was worth 50 cents US.Right now we are paying over $1.60 CDN for $1US.There are alot of Canadians that take their vacations down in Florida and this is just one way Disney entices us to spend our vacation dollars there.I believe Disney also offers these discounted tickets to us in order that we can try and fill some of the empty hotel rooms during the slower months(which is when these discounted tickets are only good for)

You know something, i do feel bad. But i have been saving for this trip for many many years. My son is 12 and it took this long for us to beable to take him. We don't make much money either. Our rents are very high, insurance and everyother bill. It cost alot just for my son to play sports, and it takes away from our family. So hey i know how it is for our dollar not to go along way. I see people here going to disney a couple of times a year and good for them if they can afford it. But that is not every American, alot of us struggle real hard and can't do what we want or go where we want. Disney is a dream to many of us, that will never see it. It may be a mistake for our family to go, because we need a new car. But i am sick of holding this trip off. Our dollar is shrinking.

I am just saying that we should all have discounts. It isn't fair for our families either, and give it away to yours. When we are both at need.

One other thing I would like to say in defense of cheaper Canadian tickets is that the special is only available on a 7 day park hopper with 4 plusses, and that they DO EXPIRE if not completely used by the end of April, 2002. So the special price is only special if you have 11 days to spend in the "World".

Last defense here, how many times have you guys been to disney. Well me and my family are going during the time frame just mentioned with no discounts and this will be our first time going, and probably the last for a very very long time. Like i said i am sorry that your dollars does not go as far as ours does. But my dollar doesn't either, and it looks like yours may go a little farther than some of ours since you have been to disney many times. I do not want to fight about something like this. You guys get the discounts we don't, we just all have to bite down and take it. Have fun on your next trips.

Hey Silly Sally

There are many discounts available to us in the US. Please take a minute to visit www.mousesavers.com I think you might be surprised!

If you need any help doing disney on a budget let me know. You can email me at disneymouse@sprintpcs.com I did a 6 night stay in June. 2 adults and 2 children for right under 1000. Disney can be done much cheaper if you look in the right places.

Good Luck to you. Disney World is a dream come true no matter if you go once in a lifetime or more.

silly sally...

one of the reasons our dollar exchange rate is high now ....is due to the "strong" USD on the world markets...and as mentioned the deal is not such a deal if the "tickets expire"....

Universal and Seaworld offer "canadian at par" rates too which helps us....but some of the hotels that offer "at par" rates do not seem to understand the concept of what "at par" means.....and there are a listing of such "hotels" on the orlandokissimee.com site under canada/at par.....but we have found when we contacted them ......the 30 dollars US at par is nowhere near "at par" ...the best they offered was a 28USD rate which woudl be 45$ cdn...so we too have to be careful with what "seems" to be "good deals"

disney did have a promotion on ......for 50$ gift certificate when you bought an adult park hopper at a Disney Store....but they only offered it in Illinois and Florida.....supposedly their market research suggested that a lot of "park business" originated in both states...

that being said....they also pulled the promotion a couple of days early ...since the internet allowed people to know about it beyond the borders of the states mentioned......and some were able to get the promotion even though they did not live in those states....

not that it was wrong for them to do that....you try to get your discounts where you can....as most people who are here on the budget board try to do....

often, someone will post something here which all of us can take advantage of....

we were able to book a room for $1 at a super 8 to fill out our vacation this time, when somenone posted a link to travelzoo

look at mousesavers as was suggested....

we all want to stretch our leisure dollars for sure....

be sure to enjoy the magic while you are there.....there is a lot to be found beyond the $$$ signs

Disney doesn't offer discounts to Canadians because they feel sorry for us because our dollar is so bad. They offer discounts through the "buy one get one at half price" deal because it is advantageous to their business to attract a certain group of customers during a particular slow season. Disney is in business to make money, when a group of customers ceases to buy, they need to figure a way to attract that group back. Canadians have felt a particular pinch as our dollar has dropped and therefore cut back on travels during the winter to Florida. Disney has responded to that reality by attempting to reattract this group to their parks (as has Universal, Sea World etc.) Disney does the same when they offer deals to particular states from time to time. It may not seem fair, but it is merely business, it certainly is not sympathy to Canada, its about making money.
