With current rules, a guest cannot do that except in-person. (So, no advance FP+.)
As time goes by, that rule might or might not change. Stay tuned.
A good deal is great but a very big downside is that if you have to use them to buy new tickets you do not get to book FPs in advance since you have to upgrade them in person (assuming you don't live in the area and can upgrade before your FP+ date).
You can apply the value of unused, expired tickets to the price of new tickets over the phone.
DD and I were scheduled to go last November, but had to cancel and the tickets expired. In January, I called and had the ticket prices applied to new tickets for May. I currently have fantastic FP+ booked for May. Granted, that trip isn't happening either at this point, but my point is that I didn't have to take a trip to Florida to be able to book those FP.
