Thanks in advance for your help.

We are going to be staying on property with park hopper tickets in September but we will be getting in a day earlier and staying at the Dolphin for that one night. Can we use one of the park tickets to get into the parks the day before we check-in to our onsite property? Or do we need to check into the hotel first to activate the tickets before we can use them?

Just a minor note:
The Dolphin is considered (for most purposes) to be an "on-site" resort.

You can no longer activate tickets purchased as part of a resort package prior to your check-in date meaning, if you purchased your park-hoppers as part of a package with your second stay, you won't be able to use them when you are staying at the Dolphin. Your best bet is to book your WDW resort stay as a room-only (or room and dining package) and purchase your tickets separately with a start date of your Dolphin check-in date. Hope that makes sense.

When did you book this package with tickets?

If you booked with new Theme Park Date-based Tickets, no you cannot activate and use your tickets early - per TA training manuals.

If you booked your package prior to October 16th, you can activate and use your tickets that one day early.

Thank you for your responses. We currently have tickets booked as a part of our room only package. We will either change that and book tickets separately or just make the day we arrive a boardwalk/resort day. Thanks again!
