Just reading the latest email for our upcoming trip, read the newest park rules. Why in the world don't they allow selfie sticks??

Dangerous to others on rides and walking about. Damaging to attractions.

Our trips since the ban have been so much more pleasant without all those sticks flying all over the place.

Any CM will be happy to take your picture for you. :thumbsup2

I believe it stemmed from an incident at DCA where someone mounted a selfie stick to California Screamin' which caused them to shut the ride down. It's also a major distraction as people get so involved with getting the wrong angle they don't pay attention to who they might be running into.

Good riddance!

On top of what has been point out about rides and walking they were increasingly becoming dangerous during parade time. People were only caring about themselves and their picture and not the performers who may have low visibility to a stick at a ransoms height.

Think about the dangers it would cause on a ride like SM as well as other rides. I love that they don't allow selfie sticks.

I was just getting into space mountain when some one on the ride took one out the ride was shout down for 15 minutes. been hit with one one to many times I am so glade they are band. I do have a selfie stick I only use it when camping and there is no one around to take a picture of me with whom ever I am with at disney there are thousands of other people ( CM and guest) and 99.999% of them would be more then happy to take your picture ( and some times make a suggestion for a better picture you may not have thought about).

FYI it's the *extendable* sticks. Sticks that don't extend are actually still allowed.

So glad they aren't allowed. We never see them at our local amusement parks either. Went to NYC and were shocked how many people use the dumb things. We just laughed at them but I have to say it was pretty annoying to have to dodge them in the crowds. If only they could have technology to block camera flashes on dark rides and iPads filming fireworks...

I graduated before selfie sticks became a thing. Last time I was in NYC people were just walking around using them, completely oblivious to the people and cars around them. I was kind of surprised, honestly.
At WDW they definitely caused problems on rides. People generally just don't think while using them.

I wish all the local theme parks would ban them. They are possibly the worst invention of the current century. People take them out on rides, block walkways while using them, swing them around and hit other people... It's so dumb.

Interestingly, though not banned at our local theme parks (and there is nothing like a bag check at any UK theme park I've been to), I've made several theme park trips this year and not seen one. They've definitely lost popularity here. They were a nightmare when we went to Iceland (we just asked our tour guide to take photos of us).

Try Las Vegas!!! We went there last year, and holy smokes, I'm not exaggerating when I say it looked like EVERYONE had one out and was using it along the strip.

Glad to see them gone - too many people walking around F&W with them last time I was there.
It's a bit crowded on a F&W weekend to be walking around with those and not paying attention to anyone else around you.

Adding my vote for these things being incredibly annoying and unsafe. I don't think I've ever seen one being used by someone who was actually paying even an iota of attention to their environment and the other people in it.
