Folks, a few words about crowds (such as they were) at the park today.
1. At 7:30, the lines at the DL park gates were well past the Monorail, which led us all to believe that the park would be busier today than on recent Sundays. However, most of those guests must have gone to SWGE because once we got to the rope drop to the right of the hub, there were far fewer people than we expected.
2. Throughout the day, the park never really got busy. Often on Sundays, we have a few golden hours where crowds are light but then by about 11:00, folks begin to pour in.
3. As many of you know, the ropes go down at around 7:58 (if CMs are on top of their game) and then with about 30 seconds left before the official park opening, a prerecorded announcement plays. Towards the end of it, guests are then allowed into the park. For some reason, our side started to walk well before it was over. CMs didn't seem to feel the mob was stoppable because nothing was said. More to the point, what are their options? If they somehow manage to corral the fifty or sixty guests who stepped off early, by the time they get them back behind "the line of scrimmage," it would be time to enter the park anyway. In any event, we had a massive lead on all of the other guests as a result. I've been on the receiving end of this many times (when guests to the left of the hub stepped off too early) many times in the past. But because our side won this morning, we were easily first in line for PP. Then we were also second in line for Mr. Toad and then 12th for Alice. It was an interesting way to start the day. (As an aside, last Sunday we did Dumbo for our third of fourth ride of the morning and, for the first time in my life, it was actually a walk-on. I've never even heard of that happening so it was even more of a treat).
4. We headed over to Buzz at around 8:40 and crowds in Tomorrowland were equally light. We got through three rounds pretty quickly. Unfortunately (as I pointed out in an earlier post from the park this morning), scoring wasn't working again today. That is, the top ten scores were displayed on the scoreboard but pics did not include their associated scores. So I got no credit for any of my games. However, I did grab a pic of the scoreboard and I imagine most of you will take me at my word that I broke 2M twice today. Oh, incidentally: it seems that one guest was allowed to claim two of his/her scores. No idea how that happened. Last Buzz-related complaint: the pic that was displayed as the top score of the day showed that the score of 20,000 was actually rated 6th, somehow it still earned the top spot.
5. Despite a number of reports of extreme heat, temps actually weren't that bad today. I don't believe it got above 85 by the time I left the park at around 2:30.
6. Some interesting gossip: most if not all of you are aware of the $99 per park-hopper discount for up to three guests of AP holders. It's also widely known that the offer is only valid through the end of August. However, I chatted with a CM in Frontierland early this afternoon and he suggested that the deadline may actually be extended (note: this is merely a rumor and is as likely to be true as not). I hope that comes to pass because I've got some old friends who hope to visit in early November. We'll see what happens.
7. I brought back a few sets of maps again so my supply is now replenished. Send me a direct message with your preferred mailing address if you'd like me to me send you some.
A few park pics. Note that I would have been the first person in the park today but several guests ran - all of them adults. It annoyed a few of us that as they passed us and at least one CM who asked them not to run, they joked that they were merely jogging but that they'd also be careful.

We stopped in front of the two jails so I tried to snap some decent pics but I guess my iPhone has poor night vision.

Do these count as hidden Mickeys?

Note that only one guest got credit for his/her scores. It's odd that it only worked for one person. Who knows why this scoring problem is so pervasive. Certainly not Disneyland ;-). The top two 2M+ scores were mine, so at least I know I did well. As do some friends and a few acquainted CMs
.

Somehow a score of 20,200 took top place this morning. Even though their system indicated that it was sixth. Maybe the problem is simpler than I imagine: the system can't count. Seems as reasonable as any suggestion I've heard so far ;-).
