Park Pass Question

We just signed up with DVC at SSR and my guide is off today but I was wondering, how do the park passes work? Are they the same park hoppers you get when you do a non DVC vacation? I know we have to purchse the passes seperately. What kind of discount do you get or does eveyone buy an annual pass?

As you said, park admission must be purchased separately. DVC members use all types - it depends on what their park touring plans may be for a particular trip.

There are many, many members (us included) who buy either annual or premium annual passes. Then we schedule our trips to get at least two trips out of the pass. For example, this year we am going 12/5 - 12/12. Next year we will probably go 11/28 - 12/5. The trips are about a year apart, but we will get two trips out of a single annual pass, so that is the most economical deal for us.

DVC offers a 10% discount on the UPH pass (formerly known as the length of stay pass). This is the same pass the other resorts offer. Again, depending on your plans, this could be a good value for you.

We've also purchased and used hopper passes of various length. If we're not planning to go to a park all days of our stay, these passes work well - they don't expire and we can use the same pass for more than one trip.

Do check the list of discounts that you receive at check in (or visit the members' website for a current list). DVC presently offers many discounts (they can and do change, though), including admission discounts to the water parks, mini-golf and Pleasure Island.

Welcome Home! The park passes that you purchase at the front desk of a DVC resort are the same as you would get at any other Disney resort. The length of stay pass (not sure if that's the correct name) can be added to your room key. Charging privileges are connected to the room key too. Discounts for DVC members vary from time to time. Go to the official website for updated information, as aDVC member we also get other great discounts around the world.

As a DVC member, you'll probably want to give very careful consideration to Annual Passes. The breakeven point is typically 8-9 park days when compared "Hopper" passes.

Since you bought into DVC, I'm assuming you will at least be taking one vacation per year. Even if you travel the same month each year, in most cases it's possible to get two trips under a single AP.

Example:

2003 Stay - 4th week of October
2004 Stay - 3rd week of October

The AP is good for 365 (actually 366) consecutive days of admission to the parks. By staggering trips a week, you can get two annual stays under the same AP. You may even be inclined to make more than one stay. Heck, if your park passes are paid for and you have DVC points to burn, why not?!?!
