I know DL and CA are right next to each other. Is it pretty easy to just park hop back and forth? If we were planning on spending the day at, say, DL but wanted to make a lunch reservation at CA would it be much trouble to just go over for lunch and then come back?

Yes, the two parks are only 110 yards (about one football field) apart. I would allow about 5 minutes to get from the gates of one park through the gates of the other park (depending on how busy the ticket gates are). My family park hops often and it's easy.

Park hopping is a piece of cake, easier than crossing the street. It would be no trouble at all to go there for lunch and then come back. Keep in mind that the Fastpass systems in the two parks are separate, so you can get a Fastpass in one park and immediately get a Fastpass in another park (without dealing with the waiting period). You may want to use that to your advantage as well.

We go back and forth all the time. Easy peasy. We usually get a locker in the esplanade so we can drop off packages, get sweatshirts, etc as we need them when we switch parks.

I want to mention if you get FPs all of the people you are getting FPs for have to be in that park you are getting FPs for (have gone through the turnstiles).

For instance if everyone is in Disneyland, you cannot run over to DCA and use their tickets to get FPs unless they use their tickets to enter DCA first.

99% Sure about this, but just in case please correct me if I am wrong.

Am I wrong?

Each ticket has to have been used to enter either DL or DCA before it can be used to get a FP. Once the ticket has been scanned/used to enter a park, it can be used to collect FPs in either park. In mid-November, the whole group went into DL and then I "hopped" over to DCA to get RSR and WoC FPs.

So once the tickets were used to enter any park,DL or DCA they can be used to collect FPs for both parks?

Thanks for clearing that up!

And I'm sorry for getting it wrong.

Sometimes we bounce back and forth between parks several times a day.
It really is that easy.
