park hoppers vs MVMCP

I'm interested in hearing people's opinions. My next trip to Disney isn't until November 2017. I'm teacher but plan to take my personal days around Veteran's day. Depending upon when we fly out, we will have 4 or 5 full days in FL. DH wants to go to Kennedy Space Center so that will take most of one day. Given the short time frame that we will have, would you recommend buying park hopper tickets or tickets to MVMCP? It will not be an option to buy both and it would actually be cheaper to buy park hoppers. We've never used park hoppers before but we've also never been to any of the special parties.

(I'm trying to distract myself by planning to Disney instead of thinking about how hot my classroom will be over the next couple of days. Forecast in Maine is calling for temperatures at/near 90 degrees and it's probably safe to say that most schools in Maine do not have AC in them)

Regarding the Hoppers.

You can wait to ADD the Hoppers until you are at WDW and see what you think
when you're actually there.

The price will be the same to upgrade to add the Hopper as to buy it in advance.

I am also a teacher who has used personal days around Veterans Day a few times. And I have done both - hoppers or MVMCP. For a short trip like this, I loved doing MVMCP, because we made the most of the day by doing AK in the morning and then hopping over to MK at 4pm when they allow you to enter with party tickets. November at this time of year USED to be much less crowded, now not so much. I feel like the Christmas party allows you to see an awesome parade and fireworks, but also get on many rides (as long as you aren't an autograph person. Some of those lines eat up a ton of time.) Hope this helps!

Hi PrincesCJM, I hear you about the air conditioning; I, too, teach in Maine and am NOT looking forward to how cozy and warm my room (which is in "the PORTABLES") will be tomorrow!

I am taking my personal days around Vet's Day this year, when DD22 and I will head for WDW. We are going to do either a 3 or 4 day base ticket and MVMCP. We haven't done the Christmas Party in many many years, and we love being in MK at night. As this is a short trip (arrive Sat evening, head home Thurs morning), we are planning this: Sat night DTD, Sun HS, Mon AK, Tues off to relax until heading to MK for 4pm and MVMCP, Wed. Epcot for F&W, Thurs heading home. The only thing that might change is if we get the 4 day ticket, we might go to MK on Saturday night for Wishes and MSEP. Waste of a ticket, sort-of, but we do love MSEP. I figure taking the day off before heading into MVMCP will let us recharge our batteries a bit!

We went last year Veterans week and did both the park hopper and MVMCP. In my honest opinion the park hopper was a total waste of money. We used it once on our very last day. We LOVED MVMCP though! It was a totally different atmosphere than being in the park that day was. We're planning on going back next November for veterans week too. The crowds and weather were perfect last time! The only way I will do the park hopper again is if we're lucky enough to get free dining and having a park hopper pass is a requirement.

I made this very decision with my trip this November. I used to get park hoppers for my trips, but I have slowed down in my touring style. In 2013, I ended up only hopping to Epcot once, for dinner. In 2014, I didn't use them at all. I went to MNSSHP last year and really enjoyed it, and this year, I wanted to try MVMCP. I've always wanted to experience Xmas at WDW, and this is sort of a way to do that. If you've never had park hoppers, you wouldn't miss them anyway.

We have not done park hoppers before. I don't like losing the park time/energy to travel between locations. I'd rather pick a park and be there for the day. This works well with my planning style, and I've never wished that I could park hop. However, I think the MVMCP would be an amazing experience. We went to MNSSHP in 2013, and it was awesome!! We are attending MVMCP this year, and I can't wait!

We love the MNSSHP party, and believe it is Disney at its best. This year we return for F&W and MNSSHP. For OP's choice between Park Hoppers and MVMCP, I would choose ... NEITHER (at this point in time). We've been to MVMCP more than once, and feel it's not worth the money. We aren't the only visitors who have this opinion. The little cup of cocoa and 2 cookies is, like, so-what? I'm diabetic, and asking tor substitutes gets you something awful to drink, and likely NO cookies or anything else. We don't feel the MVMCP party has enough high quality "special-ness" to merit the extra ticket purchase.

As regards Park Hoppers, since OP's trip is so far off, it remains an open question whether Park Hoppers are worthwhile. In the time leading up to OP's trip, things could change, people going to WDW could change, dates could change, length of trip could change. Since Park Hoppers can be purchased at WDW at the spur-of-the-moment, for now I would say "PASS."

I'd do the party. Unless the idea of spending time traveling between parks really appeals to you or if you don't want to spend an entire day in one place (like DHS or AK), then park hoppers don't have a lot of value, IMO. You can't really do or see anything different with park hoppers than you can normally do, whereas the party offers some really cool "party only" things. I'd choose the party.

If you don't think you will park hop much don't do either. MVMCP will be PACKED. You could do a third option like Hoop de Doo. You can buy MVMCP tickets after you get there. If you try to buy tickets that day and it is 'sold out' then you know you made the right choice and just avoided a huge crowd.

DITTO--sort of. I agree with MVMCP, especially with the price and the risk of it being PACKED.

I AM a big fan of PH! It suits my touring style very nicely. I hit up the EMH park, tour til noon, grab lunch, go back and nap and then hop to the park of my choosing for evening.
