My brother and sister are going with us this year and gettign 4 day hoppers. I would love to pay the difference and get 10 day hoppers with no expiration to keep for my husband and I afterward. What is REALLY the deal with the fingerprinting thing. Could my husband just take the passes and explain that they need to be recalibrated because they are not working properly? Please no yelling, but any suggestions??? Is this still possible??

In all honesty, I don't know how to answer your question. I think it would depend on the CM you speak with.

You will be asked to produce an ID that matches the name on the pass and you will get your tickets confiscated when it doesn't match. They have it all figured out.

Let your brother and sister keep their own tickets and you guys just buy your own tickets. It takes more energy to come up with a good story to change the tickets rather than just to buy the tickets the right way. It's just not worth the humiliation. I'm sure every CM has heard ALL kinds of stories.

Buy yourself and your DH the 10 day and your brother and sister the 4 day you will have no problems.

The passes have names on them. You'd have to have id to match. It's not worth the chance.

We just returned. Two adults and two children. We just shoved the 4 passes into the machine one at a time and went thru. The first day at MK there waws no fingerprint id. The next day at AK we did have to use the fingerprint ID. Only on the adult tickets. However, my daughter was in line when I shoved an adult ticket thru. She put her fingers in and the green light came on and on she went. Then my wife ended up with my ticket and she used her fingers to go thru. No problem.
The next day, MGM, only the adult tickets had to use fingers. Now remember my daughter was imprinted on my wifes and my wife was imprinted on mine.
We all used our own tickets for the first time and my wife and I had to use the fingerprint thing. It worked fine.
The next day at MK I realized that it just didn't matter. We switched tickets again and it worked fine again.
My conclusion. The fingerprint thing does not work at all. We were never asked for an ID. At least three of us were fingered on one ticket and the other had at least two. Worked every time.

I wouldn't try it. We were there in May. I went ahead of my husband with two kids in tow, while he went through bag search. We weren't paying attention to the tickets and I had his and he had mine. I was stopped at the gate by the CM and had to wait for him to come and exchange tickets to get through. I did notice that I was not the only one stopped. It appears they may be checking the tickets a little more closely.

You could probably do it with kids tickets as they don't check them.

Over time I have heard countless of people in line at the turnstyles saying that they are going to give their tickets to friends who are coming a few days later and that they will just say that the fingerprinting is not working. So it's not an original excuse.

Actually, unless you're talking about the signature they're supposed to have you sign, there are no names on the passes. That is if you buy them from a broker such as Ticket Mania. I don't know (because I've never done it) if they put your name on them if you buy them from Disney... As far as the signatures go I've never had anyone ask me to sign my pass... I'm not sure why the signature line is even there.

That being said, if there really was something wrong with the ticket and you needed it replaced - provided there was no name on the ticket this might work. But if it still scans and the ticket works properly I don't see any reason why they'd replace it.

I really don't think it's worth the risk anyway. Like another poster wrote - if they found out you were trying to cheat the system, they would likely confiscate the ticket.

We just got back from WDW. When we turned our AP vouchers in for tickets, they put our names on them and made us sign them.

ETA: They also asked us for ID before they converted the AP voucher.
We also saw CMs having guests sign their cards at the turnstyles.

Yeah, same here. But I don't believe they do the same for the Magic Your Way tickets, do they?

They make you sign the back of the card just so they know that when you sign a reciept to charge something to your room it's your card. When you stay at the world remember it's just like a credit card. I haven't been since Dec, ( I can't believe I can't remember) I'm not sure if they ask for some other form of I.D. to match you signature.

It is my understanding that tickets bought in a group are tied together in Disney's system, so that any fingerscan from that group will work with any pass in that group. This is to prevent situations like the one above, where two adults accidentally swap their passes, or kids, or anyone in the group. But, sometimes the passes aren't tied together, it appears, from other posts in this thread.

To the OP: I'm not sure how this would play when the passes are purchased for different day lengths. It's possible (but I have no idea) that all four of your scans would be tied to the group of passes, so if you bought two 10-day passes for your bro and sis (and two four-day passes for you and your husband), that your fingerscans would be tied in with the 10-day pass fingerscans, and that it would all work out next time when you and your hubby go.

Or, because the passes are different lengths, they might not be tied together. The only way to test it would be to get the passes and try. If you can get through with your fingerscan on their 10-day pass, you're probably good to go.

One thing to think about, though, is that the finger scans occasionally don't work, even if you're using the right pass with your scan in it. You might then be asked for ID, which wouldn't match the coded name (or again, maybe it's all tied in a group, so I dunno).

Here's my gut feeling: If you come back next year with the six remaining days on the 10-day passes, and get flagged, explain (lying of course) that you accidentally switched passes with your bro and sis; that you and your husband were supposed to have the 10-day passes, not them. They'd probably check the system, confirm names, see that you and your H bought passes at the same time as your bro and sis, and fix it all. It's a plausible story, Disney really isn't losing any money, so you'd probably be able to clear it up at guest relations. But it's a risk you're taking to save roughly $90 on each ticket. You could lose it all.

I bought my dh's 10 hopper pass through undercovertourist for our trip last month. The pass has no 'name' on it, but he did sign it. Our APs have our names on them, however, dd, 12, forgot to sign hers. I just noticed that when I went to double check what my dh's pass has for ID on it.
So, long story short...OP...I guess you do realize it's cheating since you did put that in your original post. Could you possibly get away with it? I guess you could. Only you can know what cheating is worth in the long run.

Now, my AP expires on 11/29, I return to WDW on 12/7. Sure do wish I could use the remaining days on my dh's 10 day pass rather than renewing my AP!!

Good question that as an ex cast member I would be happy to discuss with you, I know this looks like my first post but forgot my user name and such to get on here, its been awhile, but these threads just crack me up! :happytv:

OP - Please email me directly at Pharmagirl82 at AOL :cool1:

Thanks so much! No Flames please and thank you!

Possible? Sure. But why not just sneak into the park. Probably easier than trying to con the CM's.
