Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay near Detroit Metro Airport with a park & fly deal?

We have stayed two times at La Quinta. La Quinta is clean and efficient and the price is very reasonable. For about $89, we stayed the night, had breakfast included, and had 8 days of parking at Qwik Park, which is fenced, secured, and right beside the hotel. I also print a coupon from the Qwik Park website for a free day of parking (so 9 days total, if you need it).

There are similar deals out there with different levels of hotels. What you want really depends on your personal preference. I look at it as a night to rest before the big travel day, and I don't need the extras that other higher priced packages may offer.

Hope this helps :goodvibes

We stay at Baymont Inn which has free transportation to and from the Airport, 10 days free parking and parking is at the hotel so you don't need to drop your car off. Price runs around 85.00.

The nicest accomodations we've stayed at is the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Usually runs around 142.00 with 7 days parking at QwikPark.

There is also a Courtyard, Marriott, Hilton Garden Suites, Four Seasons Sheraton, Best Western and Ramada in the same area, plus several others. If you do a search, you want hotels in Romulus Michigan.

What is Baymont Inn like? That sounds like the most convenient option.
:thanks:

It's clean but old, as are most of the (3 star) hotels in that area. The beds are very comfortable and we've always found the rooms very quiet. For and extra 10.00 you can get a larger room (King executive with fridge and microwave).

Do you have contact information? I tried a search on the web and couldn't find it. Thanks!

:thanks: The information is appreciated. We fly out of DTW at 8am and have two small DD's. Considering going the night before to make it easier on them!

We always stay the night before because we always take an early morning flight. We usually stay at the Doubletree, which has always been great. But it's apparently changed to the Metropolitan and I'm worried that the service might not be as good. We stayed at the Quality Inn once and hated it. We'd like to have a pool, because our DS is 2 and if he has a swim before bed, he's more likely to be really tired and sleep better. At least that worked for us last year.

My SIL just got back from the Howard Johnson and said it was terrible.

I'll look at the La Quinta and the Baymont Inn, thanks for the info. :)

For 8 AM flights it only makes sense to stay over the night before. You have to be at the airport by 6:30 AM. I wouldn't even want to calculate what time we'd have to leave from home the morning of the flight.

One last note. At 79.00 to 109.00 per night, these are not luxury hotels. They are clean comfortable rooms in chain hotels (most could use a refurbishment) that offer little more than a place to sleep before your departure. I don't recommend arriving at the hotel much before 8 or 9 PM. This gives you just enough time to unwind from the drive and hop into bed for a good nights sleep. Take ear plugs if the sound of jets passing overhead will keep you awake.

Some hotel shuttles run every half hour on the hour while the Baymont will radio a shuttle at any time. Arrive at the desk 20 minutes in advance of requested time.

Just a note on the Baymont. When I punched in the dates I needed(Mar12-13) it came up at $85.00 plus tax per night. Wasn't sure if that was the park 'n fly rate so I emailed them. They replied with a discount code (LPA1) that got me the room for $75.00 plus tax and when the code is entered it says PnF rate so there's no misunderstanding. Only $10.00 but better in my pocket than theirs. Parking is good for 10 days with 1 nights stay

Thanks to Daddio and to LdnCpl, just booked a room at the Baymont for $75 and yes the $10 is better in my pocket! :rotfl: :thanks: for all your help. I love this board! :disrocks:

We stayed at the Double Tree, it was 99.00 a night. It was really nice and we will stay there again for sure! :thumbsup2

Friends of mine stayed at the Quality Inn and were very pleased as well. Their's came with a breakfast as well.

Good Luck! :goodvibes

Madsofa: Enjoy your trip!

LdnCpl: Thanks for the rate code. The one I used to use no longer worked (STAYGO) so I started calling the hotel direct. Booking online with a code is sooo much easier.

dangler: I am intrigued by the Doubletree and the 99.00 rate but couldn't find one near the airport. Is it still there and did that include parking?

We went last April and booked through our TA. The Double Tree was pretty much right beside the Park N Fly. We were really impressed and it was 99.00 for the night and that gave us free parking for our 9 days (I think it would have been 8.00 a day for parking), so really we got the room for 25.00! Hope that helps! :sunny:

Actually several hotels in that price range (for Fri/Sat arrivals) ARE luxury hotels :) - complete with indoor (and outdoor) pools, great room service, fancy bedding, etc. But the not-so-luxury hotels -- for $20-$40 less -- provide the best value since most also include breakfast.

If breakfast is a priority, call the hotel to inquire what's being served & at what time... breakfast ranges from a full, hot breakfast (at the Comfort Inn or Hilton) to juice/dry cerceal and dated pasteries (at the Best Western... where they try to get you to caugh up $6pp for the hot breakfast). Also note that breakfast begins as early as 4 (Comfort Inn) and as late as 7 (Baymont) -- too late to catch many early-morning flights.

A local newspaper publishes an annual park-and-fly article (within its Metro Airport Guide). Even though this year's was published less than a month ago, many of the rates are out-of-date. Below I've complied current pricing as well as expanded content. Please let us know if you're aware of any price changes (or lower consolidator pricing--but be certain to add fees!) or have any additional information to add.

For reference, a current listing of the lowest pricing available at & around DTW:

on-site: Big Blue Deck, annex economy lots: $8/day

off-site lots: (require coupons, available for printing at http://www.travelbrokersinc.com/Detroit_Metro_Parking.htm ... note that I am not endorsing the travel service, just using the website for convience)
Airlines Parking: $10/day; AAA rates: $9/day & $55/week ( http://www.pnfnetwork.com offers prepaid reservations at $7/day, with every seventh day free)
US Park: 1 free day + $9/day; AAA $59/weekly rate
Qwik Park: 1 free day + 9/day; AAA $54/weekly rate
Park-And-Go: $7.95/day

NOTE: Qwik Park & US Park charge by the day, whereas Airlines Parking charges in 24-hour increments (e.g. if you drop your car off at 8AM, and pick it up at 6AM, you'll pay for that day at Qwik/US but not at Airlines).

Park-And-Fly Notes:
- if two rates are listed, the lower applies to Fri./Sat. arrivals
- the rate in parenthesis is the cost for additional days parking... if "standard" is listed, ASK if the hotel has discounted vouchers (they might) - if not, PRINT OUT A COUPON (see above)!
- if information is listed, it's because I'm unaware of the current situation
- hotels are listed in order of MY preference... note that hotels are categorized but some hotels in lower categories may be "nicer" (recent renovation, etc.) but lack amenities
- FWIW, properties built within the last six years: Westin, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express Belleville, La Quinta Inn, Extended Stay, America's Best Value. Most other hotels were built in the late '80s (when NW began hubbing in DTW) but some date back to '61 (note that many older hotels, due to renovation, are nicer than the newer hotels).
- if a property lists "breakfast," it offers a cold breakfast (usually coffee/juice/milk, cerceal, pasteries, fruit) with some hot items... a cold breakfast desigation obviously doesn't.

We've stayed at the Doubletree many times and have always loved it, but it's changed ownership to The Metropolitan. My SIL just got back from Mexico and stayed there before she flew out, so I'll get the scoop from her on how she liked it. Although the day they checked in there was a huge poweroutage, so she was probably not impressed with her stay.

Completely updated my previous posting today, getting rid of "unconfirmed" pricing -- everything should be accurate now. Hope somebody found this information useful!

Happy holidays everyone!

fantastic post!
Thanks LAS2AMS & others for all this helpful info.
We stayed happily at LaQuinta the night before our flight Sep06. Friendly service, decent hotel, nice enough breakfast, free wireless internet. Also got coupon from QuikPark website so was only $89 w/ 8 nights Free Parking next door. We had another coupon too for a free day Parking & that was accepted at the Lot when we checked out of it. So we had all our Parking Free. They would have taken CAA discount too.

I had stewed forever about which hotel to stay at on this. Turned out we did not miss having a pool at all for the short time we were there.
