I don't know the prices offhand but they are expensive - it all depends whether you like the convenience of the tour or whether you'd rather do your own thing. To get to Versailles independently you'd be having to catch one train into Paris then change for Versailles but bear in mind that it's free admission for under 18s and EU citizens under 26 so could work out quite a bit cheaper.
Thanks for the info, found the prices in the new brochure in the end and yeah, it was expensive. Think we'll end up doing it under our own steam if we go into Paris next trip. It occured to me yesterday that if we go next year it'll be DS's 4th trip to France and all he's seen is Disney!
Thanks Carrie_Cat. Just wondering am I right in thinking that the RER is faster than the Metro? Wondering what the best way to get to the Eiffle Tower is from DLP. Also have you been to Aquarium de Paris? Noticed the other day that we can use Tesco clubcard points to pay for tickets and am wondering if it's worth putting that on a to see list.

The RER is the suburban version of the metro if you like. The metro covers zones 1-2 so all of Paris and the suburbs that touch Paris and the RER has several stops in zones 1-2 but goes right out to zone 5
FRom DLP you would take the RER A at the station and go to Charles de Gaulle-Etoile where you'd change onto the metro, line 6 (direction Nation via Denfert Rochereau) and go 3 stops to Trocadéro.
From there it's a easy walk across the Esplande de Trocadéro (where you get great views of the ET) and across the bridge.
I've not been to the Aquarium at Trocadéro so I don't know what it's like but I've just seen an offer on it on French Groupon
