Parents- Would YOU like this fundraiser?

Schools and various organizations in our area work with local and chain restaurants to hold a small fundraiser monthly. On a designated night every month, you go to the restaurant and put your receipt in a basket on the counter and 20% of the total from the receipts is donated back to the school or organization. It actually works well with my children's school because all of the families go and the kids all eat together and the parents get a chance to meet each other and become friends as well. The restaurants usually put up a sign letting all of their customers know that a fundraiser is taking place and for what organization and many receipts are put in the basket from customers who just happened to be eating there that night. It doesn't need to be a sit-down restaurant either. Fast food restaurants usually draw the biggest crowds certainly not because of their food but because the kids can be loud and run around, especially if there is a play area.

I buy one of these type of cards every year, our football team sells them in our school district the card I have is called a varsity gold card. I love it, we get lots of use out of it and it doesn't take up any space in the drawers or closet like all that wrapping paper and candles all the other groups seem to be selling lately:)

Wow everyone...

THANK YOU for all of the replies! I'm happy many of you agree with what I was thinking- that this would be a pretty easy way to make money, not have to worry about delivering items, etc.

The company I found has the option for us to find local businesses to use- which is exactly what we would do! We're not from a big city, so if we could get some popular local businesses on board, I think this could really work.

Thanks for all of the other ideas (pizza card, flowers, etc) as well! :thumbsup2

I'm in your neck of the woods, I'd buy one. I just try to branch out into Ft. Pierce and PSL as you will have families in both areas most likely. Good luck!

I taught high school chorus for several years before having DS. The discount card was by far the best fundraiser!!!! Once you get it going that first year, you will have people asking for them each year after. It's a win/win for everyone - you get funds, customers get lots of discounts, and restaurants and businesses get advertising and usually more customers. And it is an easy sell for the kids. Good luck!! :thumbsup2

A little off topic, but for others who may reading this, our PTO raised $76,000 this year!

We have only one fundraiser a year, A walk-a-thon. Each child asks family, friends & neighbors for donations and then they walked. We have 1,200 students K-5. The primary incentive is a tie-dyed t-shirt when they reach $50. There are a lot of parents more than happy to give us the $50 instead of selling wrapping paper. And lots of kids have donations from several people, even 20 or more separate donations. The student with the most donations dollar amount got to be the honorary football captain or head cheerleader at the high school homecoming football game. She brought in $450.

It was a great event that still got the kids involved in helping out their school.

I'm not really sure how best to word it, but I would caution against telling them they only had to sell two. You might have a lot who literally just sell two, or think that they can't buy more than two. Maybe find a nice way to word it that they need to sell at least two, but preferably more. Heck, depending on the kids' ages just telling them flat out that the more they do the better their show will be will be enough incentive. For what it's worth our football team sold these cards and they were a big hit.

YES! I LOVE these fundraisers! (they're the only ones I can tolerate!)

I actually seek out these cards, by calling the local high schools, soccer leagues, etc and asking to buy one. I can't be waiting for them to come to my door (I might not be home)! :lmao:

Yes, I agree, wholeheartedly!

Our school football team does this every year. There are 16 coupon stickers on the card for Dominos. All the coupons are for buy one pizza at menu price and recieve one pizza of equal or lesser value free. Its $10 for each card. We buy 2 of them every year. One for us and one for a friend.

You all have been WONDERFUL with your replies! Thank you so much! :goodvibes

I will defintely work on my wording when I pass these out- and encourage the students to sell as many as possible!

Thanks again! :cheer2:

We love these cards and they are an easy sell. They are easier to use than the Entertainment books,IMHO, because you don't have to constantly be looking in the book and cutting out the coupons!:)
