I read an email this a.m. that my Mom had wrote last night(tues.), she tells me that my Dad had a rupture, (where... she does not tell me, but I am guessing it was the hernia he did not have operated on) and had surgery on Monday a.m. and she brought him home that evening. The wound was bleeding alot but he is doing fine as of Tuesday morning.
Does anyone else have parents as stubborn as my Mom? This is the same woman who had a heart attack in 1999 and told me that I didn't need to come home,( I went) and in 2001 fell and broke her hip, and sat on the couch for over 12 hours and wouldn't let anyone call 911. I found out and told her "you will call within 30 minutes or I will call my friend who is an EMT, she called and to make a long story short she is fine. Don't you love how parents keep you updated, 2 years ago I had a cousin die and I did not find out until 2 months later from another cousin. Yikes I had better go an make a phone call!! I am 1500 miles away, and they are in their late 70's, better give them another lecture!

I am the one my parents talk to the most, so I am usually the first to hear everything. This could be good or bad.

Your parents probably don't want to worry and feel they can still take care of themselves. They know you are there if they need you.

I have the complete OPPOSITE problem. When my Mom or her husband are sick or go in the hospital, they tell EVERYONE! They are immediately on the phone calling friends, neighbors, family -- anyone and everyone they can that they or the other one went to the hospital.

When we visit, all we hear about is every ache and pain they have. My in-laws, however, are so different. My MIL casually said she fell off her bike the other day (she's 75) and I gasped. She said, "No problem -- I just roll"! ;)

UPDATE.

Just talked to Mom and Dad, after I read Mom the "riot act" she says "well, I had 2 dinners at church on Sunday" I said "you left Dad in pain to go cook dinner at church" and she says "no, he was fine." Turns out it was a scheduled surgery for his hernias, not an emergency. But I wish they would keep me updated. Dad is doing fine says he has to take it easy for a week and cannot lift anything heavy for 8 weeks. Now I can go pay bills and relax(ha-ha):D
