Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Sadly, DS was right. Denied at Brown, Vanderbilt, and Columbia. He got into NYU, but not enough $. So, it's down to 2, Boston College and UMass Amherst. I know he will be fine at either but rejection stings.

I went to UMass Amherst. Actually my most prized possession is my Alumni sweatshirt. It is almost 22 years old, is worn and has small holes. But it is my most favorite thing.

I haven't joined this thread before. My second son is Class of 2017 and is off to FSU. Thank goodness we have known since December. This waiting is agonizing.

Thank you for your follow up! I have to say, it would drive me crazy knowing she knows but isn't telling yet. I can appreciate her flair, and she is definitely building the excitement for you :)

I would really like DS to see Marquette one more time to help him decide - we are only a little more than an hour away. Since he was waitlisted at Madison, Marquette and Iowa State are now his top two choices. We visited ISU last weekend, but that is too far to go again.

Please post after your DD's big reveal!!

I will definitely post when an official decision is made!

Simple curiosity, since my DD has had trouble deciding....What does your DS like about Marquette? About Iowa State? What's his intended major? (Hope he still gets into Madison if that's his #1)

DD got into her 1st choice - GW in DC. They gave her a nice merit scholarship which makes it doable but only because she's our only.

She's going to take a few days to decide for sure.

I'm sorry for those waitlisted or rejected. I hope for a decision that everyone is happy with.
Congrats!!!!!

Whoo hoo! Congrats to your DD! It's good to hear some good news today. DD was rejected from Brown. She was prepared and expecting it but it still stings a little.

I am sorry. I can tell you, she is in good company. Six students from DS' class applied, 6 rejections. In fact, there were no Ivy acceptances in a group of pretty incredible kids who all met the criteria and then some.

Congrats! Hopefully it will be a quick and easy decision.

Sorry to hear that, I think all no's are difficult. Even if they are expected.

That is the hardest part, trying to figure out who and why they are going to choice. I know kids more deserving then mine who did not get into schools or scholarships.

Wait a second... Do both your boys play tennis? I just watched a set of twins play some amazing doubles matches over the last two days at districts...

One of the twins plays as well as my youngest, but they are not a doubles pair. They love tennis but are definitely not amazing. The goal is to win district but that is as far as our kids normally go.

Oh ok. When you said tennis, my mind immediately went to the tournament we were just at and a twin boy doubles team that were incredible players. I thought maybe it was a really small world. My son plays tennis. He's going to state!

Thanks for checking in sksjasams:)
No official decision yet........DD says she's made up her mind and wants to plan a "reveal" for the family. I sure hope it's soon, as she has no idea how many grey hairs I'm accumulating!!
{snip}
We only officially toured UWMadison once. But DD's best friend has a brother at Madison. So the girls have spent time on campus when visiting the brother. BFF wants my DD commit to Madison with her. I think that has been the hold up....DD has been torn about separating from friend or not.
I don't think I could handle a family reveal like that! It would make me crazy (which would be why my DD would do it, LOL).

I remember when I went away to school and didn't know a soul. It was freaking scary! It's no wonder that the pull of a place where they know someone is so strong. I know that's one of the reasons my DD chose to apply to the UW.
For us its "waitlist day" so far- So far waitlisted at tufts and NYU today- waiting on 2 more after 5pm
I'm sorry about the waitlists. I hope the remaining two come through for her.

I'm so sorry to hear that :(. Does your DS like one over the other?

Whoo hoo for your DS! FSU is a great school!

I have a friend whose DD went to GW. It's a really great school! Congratulations to her!

Of course it stings :(. I'm sorry.

My daughter may be going to FSU also...STILL waiting to hear back on our scholarship appeal letter from Temple:sad1: we have been waiting for more than a month!!!!

I wanted to share a dorm room find: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-2275891/the-big-one-gel-memory-foam-mattress-topper.jsp . It's a gel foam mattress topper for $39. Kohl's also has an extra 20% off and there is free shipping for any item that is not in stock at your local store no matter how much it costs. Since none of the stores carry the twin XL (dorm mattress size) in stock, I got it shipped directly to my home. Most of the reviews are very good so I figured I couldn't go wrong and those dorm mattresses are bound to be uncomfortable.

That is awesome! Good luck to your son. Our district matches don't start till Tues.

Big weekend for us...my son and I are visiting his top two schools, Ithaca College and RIT. He got into both, got merit scholarships that make the cost the same, so now it's down to what program and what campus he likes best. Hoping to have a decision soon!

Thanks so much for this! Just read the reviews and I'm going to order one for DS. The reviews said it doesn't smell weird like other foam toppers and that was a priority. DS is sensitive to scents. It's cooling also, perfect!
