Parents of College Class of 2018 (A.K.A., "Is this the line to the poor house?")

We don't find out roommates until July!!! Just today ds was saying he wishes they found out sooner.
Went for a senior picture photog session today. We weren't going to do one but this was really for me. We took pics with his guitar and also with his Mickey Grad Ears! That was for mom too.

I love that!! I looked on Ebay for some of those ears, but they were too much $$ right now with the other grad expenses. I've got an alert set up though, and maybe I'll get lucky. They look so cute! Not that boys dig "cute"... LOL

We don't find out roommate info until July, as well! That seems so late! DD wants to know now so they can coordinate. Grrrrr...

We don't find out until June. At least with a boy, though, it isn't quite as big a deal. At this point, as long as he makes it into one of the two new super-nice dorms, I think they could pair him with an orangutan for a roommate and he'd be fine. Actually, he'd probably like that, lol.

I got some Mickey Grad ears too, not sure when I will give them to her. I'm sure they will only be for one picture for me, but they were too cute not to order. I also have the Duffy Bear with the cap and gown and class of 2014 banner in the closet.

Right now I'm glad that DD has been too busy to buy her prom dress, because she decided last night that she isn't going to go. Apparently there's a bunch of drama going on amoung the group of friends who were planning to go together as a pack, and she doesn't want to have to deal with the drama. Whatever, I'm good with it. I"m just glad she made this decision before we bought the ticket later this week.

She's feeling kind of weird because she says she sick of everyone and their drama. I think she's just ready to move on and start the next chapter, and I told her not to worry too much about it, they are all stressing and getting ready to break away from their family and friend group as they move on.

Please tell me that she's not the only one...

My son only has 7 more school days left. The following week will be finals. Next Friday the parents are invited to the school to decorate their kid's car. I think it will be neat when all of the seniors walk out of class that day and see their cars decorated. I am getting some window chalk, balloons, and a few Texas A&M window stickers.

Do other schools do this?

She isn't the only one. My son is ready to go too. He chose an out of state school so that he could meet all new people.

It is so sureal. DD is done with classes. She has 3 weeks of her senior project, half of which she is doing out of state. I just finished addressing her announcements, and the invitations for graduation party that we are doing with 5 other families.

The last day of classes for seniors was last week. They bring beach chiars, blankets, signs, bbq, etc and turn the grassy quad area of the campus into a senior celebration. They go to classes to chat with teachers and then head back outside. It is a great day. The 5 weekdays before graduation the parents put on an event a day for just the seniors. This year it is pool/movie/bbq night, day time scavanger hunt, casino and dinner night, progressive dinner with dancing, and a reception after graduation practice. We also do a time capsule, t shirst for all the seniors, and a DVD for each senior. It is a lot of work (as I am learning, as I am chair of the whole week), but it will be great fun and worth all the time and effort.

DD went to 2 proms in the last week, one her own and one a friends, she had a blast at both. Had fun doing two different looks. The first one she did her 'oscar dress' style. For the second one she did her 'Frozen' princess look. Great fun, great photos, and wonderful memories.

I better get seal all those envelopes.

Has everyone made thier decision? May 1 is upon us.

They just added a day to our seniors school year yesterday! Not happy! They were supposed to be done on Friday May 30th, now they have to come back Monday and Tuesday June 2 and 3. Grrrrrr.

Last month they extended the school year by 2 days to June 5th (graduation day) but only extended the seniors by 1 day. For some reason with the extra snow day we had, they have now added 1 additional day for the seniors but not for everyone else.

Okay, that is just the coolest thing ever! I would so love to call up the Band Boosters and see about organizing something like that. Then it dawned on me -- how could anyone go to the school and decorate their kids' cars on a week day? :-( Everyone would be at work... and I know that at least for me, I'm having to already take off enough days for graduation, NSC, move-in, etc. How are y'all handling that? I really would love to come up with a way we could swing it!

My daughter woke up this morning and the first thing she said was "I graduate THIS MONTH!!!" YIKES!!!

It seems like things are flying by! 2 Proms are over (finally!) and graduation invites were mailed yesterday. Next up is AP tests and final exams next week. I'm still in denial that she is picking up her cap and gown next week...

She graduates May 17th and then we are having her party the next day. College orientation is June 2. Can't believe it!

After the graduation ceremony, her school hosts an all night party for the kids. Pretty much the entire class goes and they rent out a community center with pool, gym, etc. Apparently it's a blast! A bunch of us parents are planning on going and decorating the kids cars while they are there that night. So when they come out in the morning, the cars will be all decorated.

Such an exciting time in our kids lives!

Yeah, in my community every senior doesn't have a car and parents are usually working during the day. But it does sound like a really cool idea.

same here, I'd say maybe 40 - 50% have cars, my ds doesn't have one. It is a cool idea though!

We received a packet in the mail yesterday outlining all the end of year senior activities coming up (senior ball, the banquet, senior picnic, graduation ceremony, etc). It's so exciting but I get all emotional thinking about it being "over" soon. At the same time I'm kind of jealous of all the areas where the kids graduate this month, ds won't be done until June 25th! Then 2 weeks later he is gone to the summer program at college.

The school has an after ball event here called primetime, it's basically a lock in at the school from midnight - 5am. The kids have to sign a pledge to be drug/alcohol free. They have games, dancing, food, etc. The kids are looking forward to that more than the ball!

Decorating cars does sound like fun! But I can see where a kid would be hurt if their parent couldn't make it to decorate theirs.

My dd picks up her cap and gown tomorrow. Yikes. We also got a letter today stating she has been awarded a local scholarship! We don't know which one until awards night on the 12th, could be $250 or $2000 or anything in between, but every little bit helps!

We don't have a senior ball, or banquet or anything. There is a breakfast on the day of graduation rehearsal, and on the last senior day, weather permitting, they take them to the park for a picnic. They also have an all night party at Brunswick zone, with bowling, laser tag etc.
It's all just coming too darn fast!!

We could do the decorating thing either after graduation, or after the Band Banquet next Friday. That might actually be even cooler, because then the Seniors would have a few weeks still to drive around with their cars like that.

Ds is very ready to be done! He has one week of classes and then finals. He isn't walking at graduation and only attend his HS for band which he should be done after the concert on the 8th. It will be a bit anti-climactic when he is finished with everything. He is looking forward to orientation on the 16th AND has a countdown to the day he leaves for college. Me, I just want summer to get here.

Our seniors have to get on a bus immediately after the graduation ceremony (they get a short time to take pics w/family) and they are brought back to their cars at 5 am. So no time to get into any trouble. They can bring in a camera and a phone, and nothing else. They cannot set foot outside the building, they are locked up nice and tight

We have the same sort of thing in our town. We have two high schools, and both graduations are at the same time. Project graduation is for the kids from both schools. Once graduation is over, the kids get on buses and they get taken to our town's park & rec center (so there's nowhere for them to go in between the ceremony and the party) and they get locked in for the party until the next morning. They have tons of food, movies, games, face painting, sports, trivia contests, etc. all night long and breakfast before they leave in the morning.

Not surprisingly, my DD says she's not going.

Gosh, everyone is winding down! Prom is this weekend....DD's date decided he wasn't going, but her friends are taking her . She brought home her cap, gown and tassel yesterday..yeah and boo! Just got all the grad announcements and her party invites came in the mail today, so we have some work to do!

Our school does a toga party and cookout for the seniors. A bunch of us parents grill dogs, burgers and veggie burgers, have a ton of sides and a lot if cupcakes They have a lot of fun!

Graduation is the 31st...coming fast!!!

I am not sure what the other parents are doing, but I am going into work late that day. The kids start school at 7:30, so I will swing by around 8:00 and should be finished in 15 minutes. The parents can come all day until just before school gets out. They recommended that if a parent can't make it, they ask one of the other parents to help. My son goes to a private school and there are only around 120 seniors. I could see this being an ordeal if the senior class was huge.
