I'm thinking of ending a Universal (boo) trip for DS's 13th bday with one night in a cabin. Do you think it is OK to let two 13 year old boys take the bus to the animal barn by themselves? Do you let your early teen kids travel around the Fort on their own? DS and friend are very good natured kids, would never do anything purposefully wrong, but they are still kids KWIM?

I would trust my 12 and 14 year olds because we are very familiar with the distances from one location to another. If your kids have a cellphone to use to call you, then you may feel more comfortable. If you don't have cellphones, you might want to get the inexpensive ones that you can add time to as you need it. Then you will always be able to reach each other and you can allow them to have the independence that they may like. IMHO the Fort is safe and the bus drivers deal with all kinds of people so well behaved 13 year olds should have no problem. You could also go around the campground on the bus with them to see the route before you let them go on their own.

Thanks. They both have a cell phone, that is the only reason I'm considering it.

Yes for several reasons. 1. There are two of them opposed to one child traveling alone. 2. They have cell phones. 3. They are to remain at the Fort.:goodvibes

I would ask them to call when they arrived at thier destination and again as they were leaving to come back.

Happy Camping!

I agree, they should be fine. I've seen plenty of kids that age on their own, and as others have mentioned, since there is two of them, they have cell phones, and they are remaining at the Fort, they will be safe.

My wife was 13 on her first trip to Disney and her and her sister traveled to all the parks on their own and to River country etc so I think you will be fine letting them wander around FW by themselves.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll set them loose on a short trip and see what happens.

In 3 years, they'll be driving and maybe even have a job. I'm going to have to chant that when mine get that old.;)
