My 6yo is whining & begging for a pair! Seems a bunch of kids have them. I'd never heard of them. While, lo and behold, she found them on the 'net by googling! *LOL*

nope, but I got plastered at the mall last weekend by a little darling wearing a pair.

Luckily, I weigh considerably more than he did and he took the brunt of the collision himself. :sunny:

No, but as i lay sick in bed - my son has been bothering me to take him to Sports Authority for him to buy some with his x-mas money.

So, I was hiding out in my room, on my laptop - and you now have reminded me. BLAH!!! Thanks... :crazy2:

Check with your child's school before you buy them. The elementary school I work at won't allow kids to wear them with the wheels in them because it marks up the floors and carpets so badly. The kids can wear them to school but they have to take the wheels out which from what the kids tell me, is somewhat difficult.

Got nailed by a couple of kids wearing these in the parks at WDW a couple of weeks ago. My kids have been asking for them but I'm resisting. It doesn't look like they can walk properly when in wheels up mode. The kids I've seen seem to be walking on the front half of their feet and keeping their heels off the ground.

My son has these and only used them a couple of times. I would guess they would have to walk on the front of thier foot because you wouldn't want to wear down one side of the wheels, but I'm not sure. The wheels are really small.

Edited to add: Sorry I lied (not on purpose)this isn't what my ds has his has two wheels that pop out and are able to be pushed back in.

I am sorry to be so dense -- but could someone tell me how these are supposed to work -- I thought they would be like skates -- but how do you do it just on your heels?

I should get "in the know" before my 6 year old starts asking for some.

They have been around here for a while now. My girls are both too old for them (thank goodness). I think they cause more problems than anything else.

My DD both have them and they love them. Their schools don't have rules about them but I do - they are not allowed to wear them to school with the wheels in. They get used to walking with them but I get nervous about them wearing them on stairs with a crowd of kids around. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the schools send out a notice banning them. If you order them on-line be aware that the sizes are very odd. My 11 year old DD usually wears a size 4 shoe so I ordered the size 4 Heely and it fit fine but my 9 year old DD usually wears a size 2 shoe and the size 2 Heely was way too small. She ended up needing a size 4. It's a different style than my other daughter's so I'm not sure if the two size 4's are the same or not but I doubt it. It looks like different styles run differently.

My DD just could not get the hang of them, she was afrad of falling and stiff and ackward

We gave them away

it's funny you would mention it b/c I saw a TON of them for the first time when dh and I went to US and IOA. Seemed like all of the kids had them. I was surprised they were allowed.

my DD has them and LOVES them
no wheels at school though -
she pops the wheels out and there is a rubber piece that goes in so they can be regular sneaks...

it took her a bit to learn how to do it - but she loves them -
and i let her wheelie around the house too...

I think it is like anything else - bikes, skateboards, etc
ok to have - its all about the way they are used...

My SS had them and they drove me nuts. He was allowed to use the wheels at home, but not out in public. We had a few incidents where he did still do it in public and because he was not watching where he was going, he could have gotten banged by a car.

it is a large wheel and they have to learn to lean back on it...

Sounds pretty scary to me! Do they push off with thier toes and just kind of glide?

My DD had one pair of these and we weren't crazy about them. For our next pair we bought retractable roller shoes from http://www.rollerusa.com/ They are a true combination of skates and sneakers since it has retractable rollers on both the front and the back like real roller skates. And, like the Heely's, you can retract them both in so they become a plain sneaker. She's had more fun with these.

I thought the same thing at first - my mil bought them for her...
but now ashe makes it look easy - you just put the weight on the back
and she always has one foot in front of the other...

Find a railing to hang on to. Lift the ball of your foot and find your balance point. Try this on one foot, then repeat with both feet.
Begin with your feet together.
Step forward, leading with your strong leg, and balance on the heel assembly.
While the strong leg is balanced on the heel,
Use the trailing leg to push your body forward; then quickly lift the ball of your foot and balance on the wheel.
Pull yourself along the railing at first, while finding the balance point.
And to make sure you don’t bust, keep your trailing foot directly behind the leading foot.

Hold a handrail or door jam while finding your balance point.
Lock the knee of the trailing foot.
Keep one foot directly behind the other.
Go over cracks at an angle.
To Heel faster run into the motion instead of stepping or pushing.
If you think you’re going to do a face plant,
just put your toes down and walk out of Heeling motion.

we had those years ago and unfortunately the wheels got rusty!
Heelies you take the wheel OUT and replace the hole with a rubber piece threfore no rust!

When I was about 8 (6 years ago) they were in and I wanted some..Guess they came back..But when my parents took me to get them, Nordstrom let me try them out and I couldn't do anything..Lol....My brothers friend has these..You run on your toes then lift up your toes and slide.
