Parents' Anniversary - What to do?

The next time we head back to the world, my parents will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. Obviously, my two brothers and I would love to do something great for them. We've checked "Gifts of a Lifetime," but it just doesn't seem my parents style - not big on surprises and the like. Plus, my brothers and I are all in school so we're not exactly rolling in the dough - Gifts of a Lifetime's $250 minimum stuff is even a little pricy for us.

So, we were wondering if anyone had any ideas of what we could do for them. If we go to lunch with them, can a restaurant do anything (ie. serve a special dessert, etc.)? They are already planning (and if they are not, I am going to force them) to go to a dinner by themselves (any ideas? They're not too adventurous).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Epcot and eat at the Garden Grill. Tell them you would like the rehitchin Ceremony for them. It is absolutely awesome. If you look at my October pictures, you will see some photos of it!!!

RyMickey,

If you plan to do anything just make sure when you make the ressie's that you inform them of your plans for the parents. Most every sit down resturaunt in Dis will make some little gesture for them. Also at check in let the desk know as well they had cards, flowers and balloons waiting for us on outr 10th. I guess what I am saying is the sqeaky wheel get's the grease, but that is what the great people at Disney are there for.

I know being in school limits your funds, but I agree with dsp2...definitely let them know when you make your reservation/PS. We were in the World with my in-laws when they celebrated their 40th anniversary. We made a PS at the Yachtsman and mentioned that it was their anniversary we would be celebrating. The manager of the Yachtsman actually called us and verified how many years they had been married and their names. He never said why he wanted to know, but I figured they would do something special. When we went that evening, the waiter brought out a beautiful dessert tray free of charge for my inlaws that was decorated with their names and Happy 40th Anniversary spelled out in chocolate on the plate. They were very surprised and delighted! And I was thrilled because it was at that moment that I think my in-laws began to see why I believe in the magic that lives at WDW!!

Thanks for the suggestions. They really like the Yachtsman Steakhouse, so I might try that out. I've thought about the rehitching as well, but I'm not entirely sure about it. I've got time to think, though. Anyone else have any special ideas or had some great experiences?

Thanks.

We sent our parents to Cirque de Soleil a few years ago as a thank you gift.

They are not the adventurous types either and they absolutely adored the show and still talk about it to this day.

I understand that there is not a bad seat in the house. Tickets start at $59 + tax per person.

Perhaps they could have their dinner in the Downtown Disney area and take in a show after that!

More info here.

I read on the Restaurant Board that you can call the restaurant several days ahead of time and ask if they can have a special dessert prepared for them. I think someone mentioned that there is a bakery somewhere on the Boardwalk, and they could probably make something and deliver it to the restaurant. I read another post where someone called one of the AKL restaurants to have a small cake prepared ahead of time too.

oldkicker - Thanks for the Cirque suggestion. They've already seen it once, but always talk about going back again. That might be great.

LuvTigger - I think I might do that as well at the restaurant they choose to go to for their anniversary dinner. It wouldn't be too difficult to call ahead and it would be a great surprise.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
