Microcell--I taught at SM West for 3 years in the mid '90s. Overall, it's a great school. I don't hear much about the daycare these days, but I assume they still have it. I wish they had a daycare for the teachers' kids!

well, for the most part I have a theory that misbehavior at school has consequences at school and misbehavior at home has consequences at home. I don't think I would have had my child clean a room at home.

That may be your opinion, and I respectfully disagree. Remember when we were kids? We knew that if we got in trouble at school that we got double when we got home.

Parents need to support teachers by sending the same message at home that they get at schools. I bet any teacher that sees this thread is so thankful that I helped her understand the seriousness of making poor decisions. She is not in trouble only for vandalism, but for the decision she made and the reputation that will follow. I bet the very next time the bathroom is vandalized she will be on the list of suspects, because of a proven history of being capable.

When I first posted this I was thinking, "well, she didn't harm anyone", but the more I thought about it, I realized through conversations with her teacher that there was another girl in the class who was going to have to have a sit down with the principal to grill her because the teacher was so sure she did it (see what happens when you have a reputation?). I most certainly think the teacher could have handled this whole thing better, and that this grand inquisition is out of hand, but we will move forward from here, and she better not get in trouble at school again, because she knows she will catch trouble at home. I think it will deter her.

I graduated in the early 90's myself! In 1985 it did win big honors for being so great! I was just so surprised they had a daycare. I first heard about it when my friend's son was there three years ago. You would think it would have extended to teachers, since it was there! Funny, in the late 80's it was considered the "Druggie school" but it seemed pretty Johnson County to me (I came from Detroit).

I was a teacher a few years back, and we had an interesting experience with girls and bathrooms. Understand that I taught at an EXTREMELY small high school (sr. class was 22 kids). Our janitor reported that the girls bathroom mirror was covered with lipstick every night. After a week of cleaning it off, he was getting pretty annoyed. Since we have a small high school, the principal called ALL the girls out of class and had them report to the girls bathroom. She explained that the janitor was tired of having to clean up the lipstick mess every day, and that it was extremely hard to get lipstick off the mirror. She asked the janitor to show the girls how hard it is to get lipstick off the mirror. He picked up his scrub brush, dipped it in the toilet, and scrubbed the mirror until it was clean. Needless to say, the mirror remained clean after that!

WOW.I have read this one soooo many times and everyone swears it happened at their school. Isn't this on snopes??

Our principal read it on Snopes and thought it was too funny! It wouldn't work in every high school, but it worked in ours. I thought it was ingenious!

Well,

She came home none the worse for wear, and didn't seem too upset by the punishment. She went to see the vice principal who told her it better never happen again, and told her she couldn't go to the bathroom unless she was accompanied by someone- unsure how long because the letter she wrote up for me is still in her desk- (that is a lack of responsibility there, not deception). She has to help the custodians the last 15 minutes of class the next three days.

It seems like it was done descreetly- she said that the office called her and the kids thought she was being taken home early.

We will know soon enough I guess if the kids find out and if anything will happen as a result of that.
