Parent: Odd question about what your child wears to bed.

I have always worn either pajama pants and a T-Shirt or shorts and a shirt to bed. My DH wears just his underwear to bed. I have always dressed my kids for bed either in jammies or in shorts and T-Shirts so they just know we sleep in clothes. I would have strongly discouraged any of my kids from sleeping in the buff at any age at any time in my house with other people of opposite genders and varying ages. They can sleep however they want to when they are grown and in their own house, but they will wear something to bed in my house. For modesty and for middle of the night emergencies.

Usually they wear pj but if the they are hot may strip down to undies. What ever they are comfortable in. I could care less if they are naked outside if a house fire occurs, the fact that they are outside is the important part.

I don't think the issue people have with the naked kid/fire scenario is that their kids are standing outside naked, but that their kids would be too embarrassed to just get out of the house if they had no clothes on, and would take precious seconds to find and throw on clothes before leaving the house.

My son is not modest inside the house but I guarantee you that if he was naked and there was a fire in the house, he'd stop and look for clothes before he went outside buck naked. Because he would think he could be fast enough to just grab a pair of shorts and be on his way. And as the son of a fire chief, you'd think he would know better, fire safety has been drilled into his head, but I know that he wouldn't.

Panicking, being a kid so maybe not thinking about just wrapping a sheet around you, going to the dresser to grab clothes in a dark, perhaps smoke filled room could be the difference between life and death.
When fire professionals say every second counts, they mean EVERY second.

Now I don't think this is very likely so it's not something I've personally worried about, but I'm pretty sure that's the issue people are talking about, not that they care if the neighbors saw their kids naked.

Thank you, exactly my point.

All of my kids loved/love being naked...and not just at night! The youngest isn't so young, and still strips down to his birthday suit as he's telling me about his day at school/ friend's/relatives etc. Of course he's fully clothed in public and has no problems at school, but the boy loves to be naked at home. Of all four, his "Naked Period" has lasted the longest.:rotfl2:

:rotfl: That's hilarious. Overall, I'm glad that all our naked children get clothed in public-I was at a pool party the other day, and a woman had her three year old son completely naked while swimming because they forgot his bathing suit! All I could think of was 'What if he has an accident?!' :scared1:

What difference would it make? Not like a bathing suit would hold any of that in there!

I was thinking a swim diaper...thank goodness there were no problems xD

People think swim diapers hold things in but seriously--the pee comes right out and if they poop and you don't take them out that second the poop is seeping out into the water---unless its those think plastic diaper covers things with the tight elastic around the legs and waist--I am sure it comes out of there too but I think those are a bit more secure than just those swim diapers. I prefer to not have any non-potty trained kids in my pool--I realize that adults and older kids pee in the pool but at least they are not pooping in there!

There's a difference between sliding between your sheets sans clothes and strutting around your domicile with your bits and pieces hangin' out in the wind.

Modesty in the bed? What the heck are ya' doin' in there? Videotaping? :lmao:

This was basically what I was thinking.

I can't figure out how a child is "immodest" if they're naked only when they're completely alone? (i.e. taking off their pajamas after they've been tucked in and putting them back on before coming out of their room in the morning) What about when they're bathing? :confused3

My kids wear pjs, but we encourage them to sleep in just their underwear if it's super hot out (only a few nights a year here). Even then they usually wear something lightweight. My older DD (12) is almost overly modest IMO-- she usually wears a bra, shirt, and pants or pjs to sleep and she doesn't take her clothes off until she's actually in the shower even if there's no one else in the bathroom. :confused3

I have lots of pajamas and wear them in the evening and in the morning, but slip them off before going to sleep. Even when it's freezing in my room-- I actually get into bed under the covers and then take them off. ;) I always keep my pajamas and/or a robe right next to the bed in case I need to get up. DH always folds his jeans and a shirt and sets them on his side of the bed for emergencies or taking the puppy outside.

I.

OMG- I couldn't even imagine sleeping with a bra on!!:scared1::scared1:-- how uncomfortable!!!

I sleep nude so does DH sometimes, one kids sleeps nude one in a teeshirt, one in under wear, one in a pull up, and one in shorts. I see nothing wrong with sleeping nude. I dont judge anyone for what they wear to bed, or around thier house. I dont worry about throwing anything on if a child gets sick in the middle of the night, I take care of them first then go put clothes on if we will be up for awhile. DD's and DS's and myself will walk out of the shower naked sometimes to our rooms. No big deal here.

Nope my kiddos would not think twice and head out the door bare bottom if that is what they have on.

Well, my husband or I check on the kids at night and wake them up in the morning, so they aren't completely alone all the time they are sleeping..not that I'd care about seeing them naked, but my DD would not want anyone to see her naked. She locks her door every time she changes on the off chance that someone might come in.:rotfl:

She doesn't wear a bra to bed, nor does she change in the shower, though. She wears a bikini out in public, has no problem walking around in her underwear at home, but just feels parts of her body are private and I get that- I feel the same way.

My son wouldn't care, but again, I don't think anyone in this family feels physically comfortable sleeping naked or else someone would have tried it. LOL

My husband is a ff so he has his shirt and socks(and sweatshirt in the winter) draped over his fire pants/boots and he can get his shirt and socks on, shove his feet in his boots, pull up on the suspenders and get his pants on in about 2 seconds flat. LOL

People are strange. What's wrong with sleeping naked, especially if it's hot? My daughter sleeps naked or in her undies in the summer (she's 8) because there's no a/c in her room. She has a fan and a ceiling fan. In the winter, she's decked out in her warm princess nightgowns.
My two girls sleep nude also thier 8 and 10 I'm fine with it as long as it just us in the house...I let them be nude in morning while watching t.v but after breakfast clothes on .

Nope, we were the parents here, and was usually pj's. Parents are to parent children IMO, and in our society, clothes are worn. Parents and siblings need to be respectful of each other. Yes, I know you said 'sleep', but if like us, we would be seeing each other on way to bathroom or getting a glass of water, etc.

We know a family that started out like that, and before they hardly realized it , it grew into just running around the house naked, then outside sometimes playing, then they almost got into trouble with child protection services (boy/girl were 10/8 yrs. by this time. They lived in a semi country area with large lots/trees. (they were home schooled).

No, it doesn't usually go this way, and can't really see how the no clothes issue would get started unless the parents show clothing doesn't really matter.

Well, anyway, my feelings, what others do 'inside' their homes doesn't affect me at all.

I used to sleep naked (before kids) and I fully plan to continue the practice once my youngest gets too old to be busting in on me in the middle of the night when she has a nightmare. I have no problem with my kids sleeping naked if they want, they know how to put on a robe before coming out of their rooms. Their bedrooms are on the second floor and sometimes it gets really hot up there, even with whole house air conditioning.
