Parasols at Epcot?

psssst! The "river" of different colored pavement going down the middle of the Liberty Square sidewalk is also the... um... number 1s & 2s thrown out of the windows. At least, according to a family member who is an ex castmember.

Now excuse me while I go scrub off my skin.

It's meant to look like the way they did back in Colonial times. It didn't actually happen at Disney World. You can find this out in the Keys to the Kingdom tour, along with a lot of other things that you might not know about MK.

If you thought I said that there are literal "byproducts" on the sidewalks of the Magic Kingdom then I need to recalibrate my joke meter. Although I'm not going to lie & say I haven't ever seen it happen in the wake of a toddler... ;)

Yes, that's what I meant. The sidewalk is made to look like it would have during that time period, when people emptied chamber pots in the street.

I don't know if the Imagineers planned it that way or not, but I was told this by a former castmember & when I asked my Keys to the Kingdom tour guide about it, he winked & didn't deny it. So it's at least a rumor known to cast members.

Now... back to Parasol Talk!! :thumbsup2

Here is a link to a photo close up of a CM painting one which will give you a good idea of what the parasol is like:

They can. But they're handpainted. Some use stencils, some freehand them.
Here are some examples:

So, do you suppose they could put Marie from the Aristocats on one? I was thinking of doing a pink one with my full name on it with a picture of her and some flowers and hearts.

That is the same thing my teacher told us. He also said that in different areas of Liberty Square, the ladies wear dresses at different lengths like they would back then so that they wouldn't step in the stuff. For example, at the HoP, the dress are long. CHH they're about ankle high, and at HM the maid dresses are about knee high.

Well no wonder it take them so long to dry! Judging by how long it's taking her to paint this one, it must take forever to dry.

Does anyone have a picture of them being done in Liberty Square?

Just wanted to jump in to include a few pictures of the parasol my husband bought me in epcot - he got this in China (he actually got it for me after I took a nasty tumble and had spent a chunk of the morning in the first aid center). The floral design I believe was already done, the cast member just added my name in English and Chinese characters, it only took a few minutes, and if I remember right, it was somewhere around $20.

That's very pretty. I love the photos!

I think I may do one of each, and probably end up doing them both at Epcot (because that is normally where we go first)
They will defintely make great souviniers.

If you don't want to carry it around I know for a fact the China kiosk ships to resorts. I believe the France one does it too.

Would they ship to a Value one? Next trip I know already we're staying at Pop Century. I wasn't sure if they'd ship there.

They'll ship to and WDW resort except Swan and Dolphin I think. I've had it shipped to All Star Sports. They ship from the larger stores in the "country". So the france one I believe is shipped through the Perfume store and the China ones are shipped through the large store in the back.

By the way, how much does it cost for them to ship, if there is any cost?

No cost. It's included with your resort. Much like EMH and bus transportation is. I would although allow 2 days for your items to get there. Sometimes it can take 2 days, sometimes less. You should be able to pick it up at your Resorts gift shop.

My mother bought one for each of my daughters on our last trip 2 months ago. I am pretty sure they were about 15 to 20$. They had flowers and their name on them. They took about 20-30 minutes to make and then we had to carry them around open until the paint dried for about another 30 min. When you tell them what you want they will hold them for you until you return to pick them up. I am pretty sure you don't pay for them until pick up so if you don't have time to get back....oh well. They are just a basic cheap umbrella and they will protect you from the rain. However, the paint might not hold up in the rain. Hope this helps....btw we got ours at the France pavillion right byt the bridge to the international gateway outside of les chef's.
