Parasailing???

Ok. My DH told me that I have one wish in WDW for my birthday which was the 2nd. I've decided I want to go parasailing.

Has anyone ever done this? I tried booking it but Sammy Duvall's at the Contemporary was closed when I called. I'm just looking for info from anyone who has done this.

Are there any restrictions? Height, weight, back problems, etc?

This seems like a really exciting thing to do and I'd love to see the MK from the air!!!

The entire family did this four or five years ago. It was a blast. There are no real restrictions. You have a great view from above.

During my turn, the boat had to slow down due to some kids in water mice cutting though restricted area. You really drop when the boat slows down.

Our two DD did the ride in tandem. They had a great time.

Do you "fly" right in front of the MK? Or are you more off to the side around the back of the Contemporary? Do all the excursions leave from the Contemporary? We're staying at WL and didn't know if we could be picked up there or not.

I wouldn't say you are right in 'front' of the MK, but when DW did it, she could see the whole magix kingdom easily. She said it was awesome.

Yes, the excusions leave from the contemporary. All you need to do is catch the launch that comes from the WL and goes right to the Contemporary.

I would say that you're at least 200 feet up, if not more. It's hard to measure.

I thought there was a combine weight limit of 350 pounds. Anyone know if this is true?

I got some info from my DU travel agent. If you do the regular parasailing it's 8-10 minutes at 450 feet. If you do the premium one it's 600 feet for 10-12 minutes. I want to do the premium one. If you go tandem there is a combined weight limit of 350 lbs. This sounds sooooooooooooo cool. I'll let you know what it's like when I return!

You may want to schedule this early in the day or early in your trip. We ended up missing out on parasailing because of winds picking up in the late morning/ early afternoon. They were more than willing to reschedule us for a later date, but our plans wouldn't allow it.

There is also a minimum weight. I'm not sure exactly what is was, but somewhere around 100-110 lbs. So lightweights have to go tandem.

Its alot of fun i think there might be weight restrictions to go up by yourself but i dot know if there are any

what happens when they start bringing you down? do you fall in the lake?

They run the parasailing in a manner so you don't even get wet. You get hooked up to the parachute on the back of a speedboat. The harness is attached to a cable which goes around a (horizontal) spool on the boat. The sail fills with air (due to the moving boat), so as they slowly unwind the spool you go higher in the air. When you land, they slowly "reel you in", until your feet land on the back of the boat. At that point, they unhook the harness. Lots of fun -- you stay dry -- but you have to be comfortable with heights.
