Paranoid Mom Question

My DS's will be 15 and 10 when we go next year. At what age do you allow your kiddo's to tour by themselves? My DS15 wil most likely have his own cell by this time so I figured he would be able to get us if he needed us. I just really worry about all the things going on today, but I know I have to let go at some point

Has anyone else had trouble "cutting the cord" and not worrying?

No reason to be paranoid.

We let our daughter and friend tour the park on their own at the age of 13. We stayed in touch with cell phones. It's really no big deal. Everyone gets ready in the morning, the kids go off on their own, you check in every now and then by cell phone, and then meet up for lunch.

At night the kids go down to the pool. I remind them to hide their cell phone and money in their shoe, and cover it with a towel. No one messes with it. Just check to be sure they have their cell phone when they come back to the room. They'll get tired of you asking, and they'll be sure to keep an eye on it.

It's not like they're going to be gone all day. You'll meet up for lunch, then go back to the room, rest, watch tv, hang out, then they'll want to go to the pool.

our daughter is 12 and has been cord-free from us for a year now if she has a friend and her cell phone. they can't park hop and have to meet up with us every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. we've never had a problem.

I just came back from a Universal trip with my DS (10 1/2) and his best friend (11). Since they can move much faster than I can I would let them go ahead to a ride and have a pre planned spot to meet when they got off the ride. When we got off the boats from the hotel they would run ahead through the entry and off to the first ride. I would plod along and catch up and have a short wait before they were off the ride. Since it was another person's child I think this was about as long a leash as I was comfortable with. They felt cool walking off on their own with just that much independence. For our upcoming trip to Disney I'll have my three kids DS (18), DD (13 1/2) and DS (10 1/2) and I think they may have a day off on their own in the parks. Again, they can move much faster and have way more energy than my husband or me.

don't forget about those walkie talkies I've seen kids using at the parks - they are cheaper than using minutes & allow you to be in instant contact, just like a mobile phone.
