Does anyone have info. on Carowinds Theme Park ? I went to their site and have general info. already but I would like to know what others who have been there think of it. Thanks !

I've never been, but it sits on the South Carolina/North Carolina border, which can make for some interesting photos.

I've been several times. Last time was a couple of years ago. The park seemed understaffed and dirty, and they were not enforcing dress codes or "no jumping line" policies. But I still managed to have fun. There is a water park as well as a traditional amusement park. They do have a couple of good rollercoasters and shows. Anything in particular that you want to know?

Sunfleur- Thanks for the info. ! I guess what I wanted to know was if it would be worth it for my family to go. We are going to be in the general area anyway (visit to my SIL in Greenville SC). My SIL and her family have never been there so I thought we could do a big family get-together at the park. Does the park have things for all ages ? My Children are 14, 6 and 2 and my nieces are 12 & 16. I know that they have the Nick. characters-Sponge Bob,Wild Thornberrys ect.. but wonder about other attractions that everyone will like.

We get season passes every other year. My kids never get tired of going, but dh and I prefer to keep it to half-day trips. I find that the park looks better at the beginning of the season than at the end.

There are lots of coasters. Not much there for an adult or timid older child who does not care for coasters. Top Gun is a very fast, lots of turns, suspended coaster; on the Vortex riders stand; Thunder Road is a big wood coaster with two sides -- on one you sit backward; the Hurler is a tightly turned wooden coaster; Cyclone is a metal one with a couple of corkscrews; a wild mouse-type coaster that's less impressive than Primeval Whirl; the Goldrusher is a runaway mine train -- we call it Little Thunder Mountain. There also is a Buzz Lightyear-type laser gun ride; rapids ride that's longer than Kali River Rapids (I still can't believe it is that short); a 3-D movie (can't remember what it is now); a skytower; a keg water ride; a waterful ride; Drop Zone, which takes you up then drops you; bumper cars; a handful of rides that would make me extremely dizzy; and a couple of shows.

There is a new suspended coaster for kids this year -- Runaway Reptar. There also is a good wood coaster that's like a miniature Thunder Road; some suspended helicopters; a small taxi coaster; a carousel; cars (like the speedway at Disney); a tiny raft ride; a tiny skytower; and some carnival-type rides.

Next to the water park there is a Flying Super Saturator ride which is very cool, but you get soaked.

I probably missed a couple things, but this is most of it. It definitely is not Disney, but it can be pretty much fun. Make sure to look for coupons because they are all over the place -- I've already seen them at Food Lion and Wendy's and often there's a promotion with one of the soft drink companies or the Charlotte Observer. Admission covers both the theme park and the water park, but the latter closes earlier.

Thank You tar heel ! I'll have my SIL be on the lookout for coupons. We plan on going to SC the last week in June so hopefully the park won't be too bad.

Hi all. My first post to the community board. Just wanted to say that there is a coupon out there that was distributed to 'some companies' in the SC/southern NC area (girl I spoke with at Carowinds couldn't be more specific than that) that offers 4 admissions for $99.95 plus free entry after 4pm the night before, by far the best price off the normal $42 at the gate. So MomeE@Home, you might want to ask your SIL to ask around if anyone she knows has that coupon or can get it. I'd love to have one, but they apparently weren't distributed this far north in NC (Mooresville). Good luck; it's a fun place. With 5 of us, we go when we can get a good coupon!

She might also want to look at a few banks to see if they have the tickets. My bank always has a good deal on these tickets.

Goodness! How quickly posts get lost on the Community Board!

MomE@Home: You're welcome; it's a fun place.

chellnjr: Thanks for the bank suggestion!
