Paramount Kings Dominion?

I'm just wondering if anyone has been there and what they thought. I may take the kids down to Richmond during DS' spring break and we have friends we can stay with there - worth going to the park? Are there any discounts out there? My kids are 8 and 2. Thanks!

I don't know about discounts but holy moly King's Dominion is a blast. The Intimidator roller coaster is a MUST RIDE. My 9 year old LOVED it.

"It's not Disney"---just thought I'd get that out of the way.

We adore Disney. We love Disney.

That being said, KD (when we went) is a very clean park that my children thoroughly enjoyed. We went for my oldest dd's 6th birthday (4 years ago). I don't know if it has changed, but my dd loved the scooby doo ride. The car chase ride didn't work for me (it goes backwards and my neck couldn't handle that).

My kids also love busch gardens williamsburg--but the older two could ride most roller coasters.

I don't think you could go wrong with a side trip to Kings Dominion.

The park is no longer owned by Paramont - it is owned by Cedar Fair - the same company that owns Cedar Point. They bought it from CBC/Paramount in 2006.
The park has been stripped of some of the identity that it gained when it was bought by Paramount.

I've been to King's Dominion 4 times in my life (I'm 29)
Three times in the last 10 years.

The was at it's best when owned by CBS - but don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT park with some fantastic rides.

In fact - one of my ALL TIME favorite Roller Coasters is Volcano - it is an incredible ride!

We went July 4th 2009 - and we had a blast! We left our home in WV and drove there to arrive around opening, and we had a GREAT time. After that we spent the night just outside of Richmond and drove over the Monticello - Thomas Jefferson's home. If your kids are of age to find history interesting - Monticello is a GREAT place to go!

I am pretty sure they have their new visitors center opened now as well!

Be sure to hit Downtown Charlottesville - it's beautiful!

If you are expecting a park that's as clean, well themed, and 'grand' as Magic Kingdom - Kings Dominion will fall short of your expectations. However - it is a great park!

We went in June of 2009, and my boys had a blast. They are coaster fanatics, and when we were there, the park was practically empty - local schools weren't out yet. They rode all of the big coasters repeatedly until they were tired of riding them. We were spending a week in Williamsburg, so KD was a day trip for us. While in Williamsburg, we spent several days at Busch Gardens and Water Country. They were big hits as well. I was very impressed with how clean BG and WW were, as well as the great flowers that were everywhere in the parks. One of the things I enjoy most about Disney is seeing their flowers every time I visit.

We go every year, and always have a blast. It's clean and offers a nice variety of rides/shows. They often run discounts on their websites, and tickets are cheaper on the site if you order in advance. We usually get our tickets from my husband's work or the recreation department, as they are much cheaper that way. My son has decided to do a family weekend at Kingsdominion instead of his birthday party...2 years in a row now!

We had season passes last year. They have alot of good coasters & they have alot of kids rides. I really don't think they have much of anything for shows though. It is an amusement park, not a theme park, but it is fun. They are always throwing out discounts so I would wait to see if they offer one and not pay full price. It's a one day park for rides. IMO.

I agree, it's not Disney World. Long lines for the thrill rides, no FPs. Your 2 year old won't be able to ride anything out of the kiddie area. There you will find one small roller coaster, and the rest are your typical carnival rides (cars that go round and round). Also, check the height restrictions for your 8 yr. old. They seems to be more conservative that WDW, and depending on stature, your child may not be able to ride everything.

We are 30 minutes from KD and hardly ever go. We are WDW snobs.

Hi if driving from Florida for spring break is there likely to be any snow driving through states on route icant drive if so to scared.

It should be noted that this park is no longer "Paramount's King's Dominon", as Paramount Pictures exited the theme park business, several years ago.

This, and other former Paramount parks are now owned/operated by Cedar Fair (owners of Dorney Park, Worlds of Fun, among others).

In fact, if you have (or are contemplating a season pass) from another Cedar Fair park, it will work at King's Dominion, as well.
