I can't even spell it, how am I going to teach it?!

I only did it correctly one time in my life, and that was the day of my driving test :p

Yeah, me too, and I'm supposed to teach my dd how to do it? She's in trouble.

She's going for her license on Tuesday.

I must have had one of the best driving teachers, because I have no problem parallel parking any of our rigs...even DH's Crew Cab with 8 foot bed...As long as the other cars are not over the marks, and I have the full space, I can park - back up once, pull forward once, and we're done!...

But it's all in the set up...you pull up wrong, or try to pull into the spot, and ferget it....you gotta learn where to line up your car with the one next to it, and when to turn the wheel...which is different with DH's truck and my truck...my car as well I suppose.

I think I'll have my mom teach both of my DD's....she did good with me...

I learned how to drive in my dad's extra long pick up truck and my boyfriend's van. But I haven't really needed to parallel park since.

Yep, I can parallel park like nobody's business too! If my DH is driving & we would need to parallel park, we switch places & he lets me park it!

I remember on my driving test that when parallel parking came up I started to cry! My examiner was such a sweetheart that he told me not to worry about it, hardly anyone knew how and we would just skip it! Awwwww wasn't that sweet!

I am generally NOT a good driver, but somehow I must have been born with the parallel parking gene. Either that or I'm just a whole lot braver than most people I know. They'll pass up a good spot because it looks too small, and I'm like, "move over! i'm parking it!"

I can also do a good job of parallel parking. I agree it is all in lining the car up before you start to back in.

LOL, I remember how to do it, it's just been so darn long since I had to do it. I guess I'll have to practice a couple times before letting her have the wheel.

I can parallel park well too. My dad made me do it in between two garbage cans for a week straight, until i perfected it before he would take me to get my drivers test. It's true what everyone's saying, you need to get perfectly aligned w/ the car infront of the space you're parking in, or it screws up the whole process.

tricia.

I can still remember exactly what my Driver's Ed teacher said to me. "Well your paralell parking leaves much to be desired, but you passed." :teeth:

LOL I let DH do it now....OR I don't park!!!!

I can parallel park a 72 passenger school bus...but not my car:confused: . Can't firgure that one out...I'll drive around trying to find a space so I don't have to do it.

I went to Catholic high school and had a nun teach drivers ed. She was great. She had these tricks about lining up the car with the other car that was already parked, then we'd back up to a point, start cutting the wheel until our shoulder lined up with the left rear of the parked car, cut the wheel the other way and didn't I get in every time. No matter how big my car was, or how small the parked car was. It's hard to explain but I sure can do it to this day.

I remember when I took my drivers test, we had a big Ford LTD, one of those led sleds. I had never parked that car before because I had been on vacation and hadn't had time. The examiner picked out a spot for me, a real easy one but I was going too fast and missed it so he told me to find one. I did and his comment was " your gonna work for this one" and without a beat, I parked that big yellow ford in the smallest spot. Passed my test with flying colors.

Practice!

I had to take my test with my dad's Galaxie 500. Talk about a tank without power anything! But I parallel parked without a problem except for working up a sweat! LOL! I avoid it at any cost now. In high school, there used to be an area to parallel park in the lot. It was on the other side, so you actually had to do it in reverse. I never had a problem with that!! ;)

I guess she did not teach you any bad habits ( sorry)
I just can not picture a nun teching driving

I had to teach my daughter last year, because our school no longer had drivers ed, they did when my son got his license.
I actually had to read the instructions in the book that the state gives you to study for you license.
It took a while but we got it. The nice thing was that I finally learned how to parallel park myself. We so very rarely have to parallel park that you really forget how to do it.

My tire guy banned me from parallel parking after the second time I popped a tire doing it. He told me I'd have to replace my rims if I did any more damage to them. :earseek:
