Parallel parking, ahhhhhhh

I have to parallel park, one either side of a one-way street, we don't have a driveway or access to a parking lot. I have mostly good days, but there are times when I get to close to the curb and fight to get in a space. I grew up in a rural area and somehow got transplanted in the city  . I didn't think I'd use parallel parking, but with practice.......

My mom tought me in a praking lot, using the line spacing as boundaries. Two spaces will be wider than a regular space, but will give you some idea of how to line up the car and get close enough to the curb.

Good Luck!

I can parallel park correctly nine times out of ten. Unfortunately, that one time is always the first time. *sigh* I hit a cone trying to PP on the driving test and failed. The second time I hit the curb about 600 times, but he passed me!

The only time I can or even attempt to parallel park is when there are 2 empty spaces together. :teeth: Somehow my driver's ed teacher never did gover it. Maybe that's becuase it wasn't part of our exam and he didn't see any need in covering it.

I've had a license over 25 years and can't parallel park. I never really have to do it. I have a driveway at home, garage at work, parking lots everywhere else. Anytime I've tried it I either hit the curb or end up 2 feet away. I'm also not good at backing into spaces in a garage if there's not much room, I always go head in and that can sometimes be difficult getting out of.

The only time I parallel parked was when I did Driver's Training many many years ago!!!:teeth:

My DH is the parallel parking master.. he's really good at it!

I learned to drive on Broad Street in Philadelphia, so needless to say, I am the queen of parallel parking! ::yes::

I went to school @ temple, so I've parallel parked many a time on broad street, as well as south street. :D

tricia.

I was able to successfully parallel park for my driving test and that was the last time I tried. Of course, way back then I drove a Volkswagon Beetle and today I drive and Escalade. Huge size difference :)

I will circle for hours, walk miles and pay any amount to a garage to avoid parallel parking - I just cannot get it!

My mother is an excellent parallel parker - must have skipped a gene. LOL

LOL! I know so much of what Blondie is talking about!

DH works on 16th and Locust, so I do know what she is speaking about!

Lauri,
We taught DD to parallel park with 2 trash cans at the community park - then we moved up to the parking spaces alongside the football field at the HS.

Just this past year the DMV made a special Parallel Parking Section in the front of the parking lot - just in time for DS -who turns 16 in 2 months!

I, personally, stink at PP - and avoid it at all costs!:o

I'm good at it but I don't think I could ever teach someone to drive let alone paralel park.

Well, we're back, all in one piece and so are all the cars. ::yes::

She did good. :)
