have you ever been told, or heard of anyone else being told, that you have to be on birth control pills for 2 weeks BEFORE the paragard can be inserted? i have googled and googled and can't find any information supporting this.
so anyone ever hear of this before? :confused3

Why would you be on birth control pills when getting the Paragard? Are they asking if the person has been using birth control because they want to make sure the person isn't pregnant?

Nope. That seems really weird.

never heard of that... my sister works for an ob/gyn and they only require a preg test and that you're having your tom. i have a mirena and i had been off bc for 6 months before.

it's a long story but dd(inlaw) went for birth control. unfortunately she is dealing with the county health department. so her first visit they do nothing but give her an appointment to come back 1 month later for an exam, etc.
so she goes back after 1 month and they don't give an exam, give pregnancy test and script for pills. they tell her to take pills when her next period starts, and come back at next appointment (3 or 4 weeks later), for paragard.
so she's breastfeeding and doesn't get a period before her next appointment. this time she finally has an exam, plus another pregnancy test, but they STILL don't insert the IUD because she hadn't taken the pills. nurse says that no, she wasn't supposed to wait to take the pill until after her period. so she is sent away AGAIN and told to start taking the pills now, regardless if she has a period or not, and come back in 2 weeks for the IUD.
problem is she doesn't want the hormones in the pill, especially while breast feeding. plus i just don't understand the reasoning????? she hasn't taken the pills and wants to just go and lie saying that she's taking it. but i'm worried about that......

I have the paraguard IUD in and got it insert a few weeks after the birth of my second daughter. My doctor never told me to take any sort of birth control before it getting inserted.
