I'm a DVC member and will be using points for our 2-night stay at Disneyland...the points for a standard view at either hotel (Paradise Piers or Disneyland Hotel) is only a difference of 1 point....in your honest opinion, which would you choose to stay at for 2 nights (there will be 4 adults and a 2 yr old...walking not an issue for any of us).
Thanks!

I just stayed at PP a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It was my first time there. I last stayed at DH 10 or so years ago but walked around it this time. The room I had at PP was very nice - updated, clean etc. Not a single complaint. My standard view room actually looked out over the pool (and a parking lot past that). I would say the DH wins on the pool, but with a 2 yo that probably doesn't matter much. PP was much more laid back than DH. Weddings going on, groups everywhere - DH was busy busy busy when I walked thru.

I would choose DH. It is closer to the monorail and with a 2yo, you will probably spend more time in DL than DCA. We have stayed both places when my kids were younger and we liked DH better(just my humble opinion!:goodvibes ). I like the pool and the grounds surrounding DH better too(there seems to be a lot more greenery around DH than PP). If you think you will be spending more time at DCA then PP might be better though as you are much closer to DCA than DH. Whatever you decide, they are both great places.

Have you also looked into the GC? It is closer to both parks and is our absolute favorite resort. I also don't think it it that many more points. Just another suggestion!

Disneyland Hotel: Goofy's Kitchen has the best character buffet dinner in all the hotels (counting both the food quality/selections as well as the character array). Hook's Pointe out back is the best "slightly above casual" dinner for steak and seafood - an elegant place with lovely theming.

Paradise Pier: PCH Grille has the best character breakfast (Lilo & Stich & friends).

Of course, The Grand Californian is the best of the 3 . . . in terms of both accomodations & location. I find that PP and the DH hotel are very similar in terms of accomodations.

You can't go wrong with any of them. PP is a bit further of a walk that the DL Hotel, so if you want convenience go with the DH hotel.

thanks everyone! i'm leaning towards DLH...since it has monorail service....it WILL be much easier with the 2 yr. old...and having a nice pool will be nice for all.

The monorail doesn't actually go right to the hotel. You still have to walk to DTD to get on it. Same with PP. It's not like the old days. PP isn't that much further. Not that I'm pushing you towards that.....but don't want you to expect to walk out from the hotel and hop on the monorail. Gotta use the feet first no matter where you stay. :)

I love all three DLR onsite hotels and have stayed at them all. But I have to say the DLH is my favorite. With a two year old in particular, I would go with the DLH. The slide at PP is very cool for older kids but the pool itself is a boring, square, hotel pool. The DLH is great for littler kids and there are more food options at the DLH as well. And it is closer to the monorail station in DTD. Although PP isn't that much further.

The DLH has some very pretty grounds. Be sure and check out the fountains, Koi ponds, and the remote control jungle boats. The DLH also has a small laundry room, PP does not. Hopefully for two days you won't need it but as a parent of a toddler, well you never know!

While the DLH rooms don't have balconies, they do have sliding doors that allow some fresh air in. PP rooms do not. Only the GCH has balconies. And even though its the most deluxe in feel and is attached to DCA, I still prefer the DLH. There's just something about that hotel that really does it for me!

Also, leave your curtains open during the day, there is pixie dust wallpaper that glows in the dark if you charge it up with sunlight.

The onsite DLR hotels aren't the same feel as the WDW properties but they are very nice. And the DLH is really the only one that has grounds. Goofy is also frequently in the lobby area and I agree Goofy's Kitchen is wonderful for food and characters. I also love that Lilo and Stitch breakfast at the PP and its about a five minute walk to get over there.

If you are doing one room for that many people, I couldn't recommend the GCH. The rooms are much smaller. At the DLH, the rooms are bigger, and your are guaranteed either a daybed or rollaway (free). At the GCH, if you need a third bed and don't get a bunkbed or daybed, you get a sleeping bag. If you are getting two rooms, than the GCH is very nice. I don't find the walk that much closer to DL as many of the rooms are located down long hallways and can be aways from the entrance. By WDW standards, all the hotels at Disneyland are close, easy walks.

Have a great trip!
