My family is scheduled to stay at the Paradise Pier in November. DH & I are very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I know that most of the rooms at PP are NS rooms, but likely all the laundry is done together so our fear is that the smoke smell will permeate the room even though we have a NS room. We've had this experience at the Hilton Suites in Anaheim before. I hear that the Grand Californian is all NS, but it is $428 more (and that would feed our family for our entire trip). :confused3

I don't want to offend any smokers out there (my parents are smokers). My question to those of you who have stayed at the PP before is ... did you notice a strong cigarette smell in your room, or am I being overly concerned?

We stayed in a suite on the 5th floor and did not have any smoke odors. I have asthma and am extremely sensitive and had no problems whatsoever. My family loved Paradise Pier - enjoy your stay!

I am sensitive to smoke, being an ex-smoker and a detester of smoke now. (I can smell it in the next car!)

They are very good about keeping the place clean of all odd smells.

Yes, well smoking while driving is dangerous (more so than talking on a cell phone, if you drop the cigarette while lit....Yikes! And yes, I have seen this cause many accidents.)

Anyway, I too am overly sensative to cigarette smoke and when we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel you didn't notice it at all, I would guess that Paradise Pier would be the same.

I've stayed several times at both PP and DH and never noticed anything. I too a terrible allergies and asthma and never had a problem at either hotel.

All of this is very relieving to hear! Thanks everyone for your comments and assurances! :goodvibes

Also, I don't know where Elk Grove is, but keep in mind this is the land of anti-smoking nutters. We've managed to ban smoking at workplaces, bars, restaurants, public common areas, most rental cars, and the beach. (yes, outdoors at some beaches! Go us!) :sunny:

Soooooo, say there's the one-off chance that you walk into your room and you detect the fainstest bit of smoke: immediately return to the front desk to politely complain. It will not fall on deaf ears.

Elk Grove is about 14 miles south of downtown Sacramento. My lungs appreciate all the smoking restrictions in CA. We just had a bad experience at the Hilton Suites in July when we came down to Anaheim take DCL's Mexican Riviera cruise, and it made me a little nervous to stay somewhere I haven't stayed at before. Our room there was on a non-smoking floor, but the linens had obviously been washed with linens from smoking rooms and the scent permeates (it made it hard for me to sleep). I can breath easier after reading all these assurances. :goodvibes

Wendy,
Keep in mind also that certain floors are designated non-smoking. You probably knew that already!!
I am also extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke, but DH and I have stayed at PPH more than a dozen times since 1996 with no problems.
Greetings from just north of you!

I have heard of super sizing your meals, but this super sized whining is as sickening as the cigarette smells you are complaining about. what ever happened to live and let live. hey what about what people do on those sheets and linens, does that offend anyone at all. geez !

If you don't care for this thread, there are plenty of other ones to read. :rolleyes1 But since you brought the subject up... I can still breathe while doing "whatever" on those sheets. I can not breathe around cigarette smoke, or sleep on a bed that smells of smoke. It is not merely unpleasant, I flat out feel like I am suffocating. I'm not telling you where to smoke or not smoke. I'm not concerned about whether anyone smokes or not, that is a personal choice. That wasn't what this thread is about. I merely asked if (as a smoke sensitive person) I would still be able to breathe in a room I am paying almost $200/night for. I think it is a valid question, and considering the number of people who've responded, I don't believe I am alone in my sensitivity to smoke.

whatever, it still seems like a lot of whining to me. by the way, I dont smoke.

so maybe you should slow down and be careful with those assumptions.

Concern... whining... tomato... tomatoe. Please forgive me if I offended you. I didn't mean to imply you were a smoker. My use of the word "you" was generic - my heritage is from the midwest where you means "you all" as in anybody listening. What I meant to say in my post is that I expressed a question/concern on the discussion forum that I wished to have answered, not judged. From my initial post, I've intentionally tried to keep the thread from turning into a discussion about CA's "infringement of smokers' rights." I live very close to Sacramento, and can hear that debate anytime I wish to.

thanks for your sensitvity, no offense taken. I am a former smoker and promised myself I wouldnt become a reformed smoker, if you know what I mean. there are so many unsavory habits and lifestyles people have so I just think if people wish to smoke, they have that right. I find smoking less offensive then say two men living as lovers raising a baby, or people worshipping the devil, etc. but I suppose if I was so sensitive to smoke that the mere detection of it caused me to suffocate, I would have a different perspective. but both groups have rights and well, I dont want to start a debate here, so ... ttfn.

I agree with much of what you've said. You've also described many people in my family... dad was a smoker, mom and step-dad are both heavy smokers (even though step dad survived lung cancer and now lives with only one lung)- addictions will do that to a person. Brother has a hubby, but no kids. I love them all, and wouldn't trade any of them for anyone else's family! :goodvibes

I stayed on the 10th floor and didn't notice any smoke smell/ordor in my room. Nor did I smell it in the hallways of the PP. :earsboy:
