I am new to the laptop world and I need to bring mine on our vacation as I am taking a class and need to do homework. I understand there is internet access in the rooms, but it is not wireless.

Here is my dumb question... How do I get onto the internet without wireless access? Is there something I plug into my laptop? Do I need a cord of some kind? Please don't laugh, I really am a bit technology challenged!

Your laptop should have an ethernet connection (it takes a CAT-5 connector, which looks like a telephone connector only a little bit wider) on the back or side. There should be an ethernet cable in your room - it was in the desk drawer the last time I stayed at the DL Hotel. If not, call housekeeping and they'll bring one to you. The cable box should also be near the desk. Plug one end of the cable into the box and the other into your laptop and then bring up an Internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox) and you should get connected to the Internet. I think most laptops automagically pick up that you are connected via the built-in ethernet rather than the wireless, but you might have to go in and do something to enable that.

There is probably wireless access available in some parts of the Paradise Pier - typically it's in the lobby and convention center areas, and sometimes the pool area. But if you're trying to do homework, those places might not be the most conducive to studying!

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I figured it was pretty easy! My homework only consists of logging in and posting some messages and answering other peoples messages so it's easy to do anywhere! I was just in Mexico a few weeks ago and I took a quiz poolside!!! Gotta love laptops!!!

If DH and I remember correctly...even though there wasn't supposed to be wireless access in our room (10th floor), there was. Funny thing about those "waves", they do tend to travel beyond the "wireless access points"! :)

Other than that, they had the ethernet cables in there and with all the hotels we stayed at on our CA trip, it's very simple to hook up, even with a Mac (like I have). :)
