My family is thinking of a trade to Paradise Island in the future. Has anyone tried one yet? I am wondering how hard it will be and what is a better time to trade? Can anyone tell me where the closest airport is and if there is another one that we can use that is also close? Just wanted some info about the location and which island is it on. I don't know much about the Bahamas. Thanks for any info.

Merilyn,

Nassau is the capital city of the Bahamas. It is located on New Providence Island. Paridise Island is seperated from the city of Nassau by two bridges. There is only one airport on the island, unless you want ot use Chalk's and fly a sea plane. I think Chalk's still serves Nassau Note Chalk's has a 30 pound weigh restriction on your luggage. I have used Chalk's to get to some of the out islands. Not to worry Nassau is served by the major carriers, I know Delta for sure.

Sorry I don't know much about Paridise Island, other than there are mega hotels there and casinos. Not my idea of the Bahamas, that is just me.

Hope this helps,

I think Harborside is closed right now for repairs and it mostly trades through Starwood so II gets few deposits. Most members use and do not deposit. The Marriott is not up to standards and I think has been dropped from the exchange list as well as it is being dropped from Marriott itself. The Harborside (at Atlantis) will be a good but difficult trade but if you can get it should be worth giving up DVC for.

Paradise Island is a narrow island north of Nassau. It has a nice but not very wide sand beach backed by tall pines and palm trees. Many years ago we stayed at the Club Med there. Resorts on the island varied from modern high rises to small religious retreats. The foliage is quite lush in from the beach. The quality of landscaping varies from property to property.

We went in August and it was extremely hot. The water was clean and very warm and the surf was quite rough on several days, very calm on others. Lots of board sailing was going on, and you can walk up and down the beach and see all sorts of resorts and retreats, though I'm sure some have changed since our visit.

After a few thunderstorms moved through one afternoon, the sun came out and huge conch shells washed up on the beach. These were quickly scooped up by beachcombers.

I'd go back, but not to the Club Med which had no AC in the restaurants and served dinner family style but very slowly...about 2 hours for dinner. Eating and sweating for 2 hours is not fun!

If you go have a great trip! If you are going in the summer, insist on AC!

We stayed at the Atlantis Hotel this past March for a week, at the Royal Tours on their concierge floor. It was awesome! The weather was perfect. The view from our balcony was incredible. We plan on going "home" to BCV this coming March, but then will probably try for a trade into Harborside (the condo part of the Atlantis resort complex) next. Good luck with your trade. I'd be interested in hearing of your experience.

You may want to try for a private trade. Look at the classifieds on www.tug2.net. An owner at Harborside at Atlantis contacted me for a trade (for BWV) a couple of weeks ago. We didn't do the trade but there are folks out there who do want to trade Atlantis for DVC. Good luck!
