The crowds on main Street were a little heavy, but it was something I expected. After all, it was a Saturday and also Mother's Day weekend. But, with just the two of us and no REAL agenda, we knew it wouldn't be a problem. As we joined the crowd walking toward the castle, we only had one thing on our minds.....
On our 2009 trip, Space Mountain was closed for refurbishment, so we were so excited to get our first look at the new-and-improved Space Mountain. By just after 9 am, we had fastpasses in our hands and were standing in the standby line for our first ride.
It was so early that the interactive computers in the queue were not yet up and running. We walked past screens that looked like this....
We had no idea they were supposed to be games until we rode SM the second time!
We knew how much the boys missed riding SM on our last trip, so Jeff decided to take some video of the new ride for them. It's not the greatest video, but you do get an idea of how dark the ride is and some of the light effects turned out pretty cool. The best part... listening to Jeff laugh while he shoots...that alone is well worth the 2 minutes! Click below to see a clip.
The ride was so fun....it felt faster since the refurb and it was definitely darker. You couldn't see all the other cars on the track, you could only hear the screeches and giggles! Well done!
Finished with our space journey, we headed over to one of our very favorites....Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. I LOVE this ride!

I stink at it, but I love it! Jeff and I jumped in line and before long we were on a mission to destroy the Evil Emperor Zurg! I think Jeff may have succeeded, but I failed miserably.....my score is the pitiful one.
By now, we were starting to feel our tummies grumble and we knew just where we were going to grab some food. The Main Street Bakery! Hand in hand, we left Tomorrowland and headed back down Main Street to get some delicious baked treats. We passed my castle on the way....
It was 9:40, and prime breakfast time, so the bakery was a little crowded, but the line moved well. Before long we had these gorgeous pastries on our tray as well as a strawberry smoothie. I think I may have texted a similar picture to my son, just to torture him!
Okay, so pastry isn't the most healthy way to start the day, but they were SO delicious! If I ever retire to Florida, I want to work in the Main Street Bakery!
Tummies satisfied, our next plan of attack was to get Jeff a root beer float at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square. This is a Disney tradition....root beer floats at breakfast time....and we just couldn't break with tradition! On our way, we stopped to have our picture taken in front of the castle and take in a few Main Street sights.
Soon, Jeff was enjoying his early morning Root Beer Float! (Again, texted the boys to rub it in a little....we are such bad people!)
I also took this opportunity to take a picture of the buttons we had been given when we exchanged our Give-A-Day, Get-A-Day vouchers. Jeff's birthday was only a couple of days away, so I made him get a Birthday button as well. I don't think he's EVER had so many people wish him a Happy Birthday in his whole life!
Once Jeff finished his traditional root beer float for breakfast treat, it was time to meet up with some happy haunts. We made the short stroll to the Haunted Mansion and got in the very short line. As usual, we loved the ride...one of our favorites.
Hoping to leave all the hitchhiking ghosts behind, we headed in the direction of Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The plan was to ride Splash if the wait was short or grab FP's if the wait was long, then head to BTMRR and do the same. On the way we saw these guys putting on a little show. On a normal day with the boys, we would be in a hurry to get to the next ride, but this day we decided to stop and give them a listen. Very entertaining!
The wait time at Splash was too long, so we grabbed our FP's and continued on to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I can't remember exactly, but the standby line was only about 30 minutes so we hopped in line to wait for our runaway train. I absolutely love how Disney controls the lines and is able to be sure parties ride together. Going to other parks is always frustrating because you have to figure that out all on your own. Disney certainly spoils us!
After enjoying the wildest ride in the wilderness, it was time to head for some Adventure!
The pirate tutorial was in full swing so we stopped for a few minutes to watch. I love the little area they have designated for this street show. When we saw it in 2009 it was just done off to the side of the pathway.
Our next order of business was cavorting with our favorite Pirates!
I'm pretty sure we climbed the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse before leaving Adventureland. Jeff loves the treehouse, kind of a sentimental favorite. We actually managed to find the movie on DVD and watched it with the kids just recently. A classic!
At this point, I know we left Adventureland, but I'm not really sure if this was where we went to Fantasyland or if it was some other time. No matter, we did hit It's a Small World and Mickey's PhilharMagic at one point. The line for Peter Pan was crazy long all day, so I know we skipped that. It was really nice to be able just to stroll leisurely through the park and put agendas and schedules to the side. A very relaxing way to enjoy the Magic!
So what next on this soak up as much Magic as possible day?? Stay tuned!
