They tried it, but it doesn't seem to be enforced recently. Thursday night at 6:15, Main Street was at least 50% full, lots of blankets out, no ropes up yet. The parade was at 8:30.
Probably the most interesting thing about when we visited Disneyland Paris was that they were the complete opposite when it came to parades. My husband and I realized the parade was about to start and we ran to the route with our two year old and we got there and all the parents just sent their kids up to the rope (there was literally a rope) and all the parent scooted way back. Everyone could see well and no one was pushing or blocking anyone. It was bizarro Disney, I LOVED IT! It is the one thing I wish Disney could bottle from over there and bring to the US parks...although it was far less crowded, so that helps

Fireworks can be viewed from several locations throughout Disneyland, but the most popular are on Main Street (into the Hub) and It's a Small World Mall (pathway leading to IaSW from Fantasyland).
In terms of the parade, I agree that they don't seem to be doing a lot of about enforcing the newest policy anymore, but it does state on the Time Guide "For the safety and comfort of everyone, Guests may begin waiting for the parade once the viewing areas have been established, typically a couple hours prior to showtime." It probably means some of the enforcement is up to the CMs, but hopefully they would do something if a guest put down a large blanket and tried to hold a large amount of space by themselves.
I'm chaperoning a middle school group next week to Disneyland. We want to see the first showing of MSEP. I'm thinking about the area across form IASW, we saw PTN a few times there, but usually the second parade. How early do you think we need to take a seat before the 8:30 MSEP? Thanks in advance!
How many are in your group? And when you say "take a seat" do you literally mean to find a front row spot on the parade route (so you can sit) or are you okay with standing?

I will have 5 middle school boys. So I know I can't keep them entertained by sitting too long. I guess just to get a spot to see, we can stand. I've watched from the raised area between IASW and Matterhorn and right by the gate where the parade comes out at IASW. I like both and was thinking those spots would be fine. I just don't know how early to get there since I have to keep my group together, we can't take turns going to get a snack, etc. Thanks!
