Parade Etiquette

I was so glad for the parade etiquette portion of the podcast...although, unfortunately, the people who need the lesson probably don't listen to the podcast.

I have sworn off parades - there is nothing, for me, that is worth standing around 2 hours for only to be pushed and harrassed by other people for my spot. On our last trip, we were content to stand behind the crowds to watch Spectromagic; in fact, we even stood BEHIND a garbage can in a sticky mess to at least have a spot where we thought we could get a glimpse. A large family in front of us (grandparents and two sets of parents with kids) were getting it a fight with another group who they said was blocking there view...and then they turned right around and put two of their children on top of the trash can blocking OUR view. Rude AND dangerous for those kids.

The stress and frustration is just not worth it for us; we'll use the time to go on an attraction that is easier to get onto when the parade is going on.

I agree with Pete & the Gang. (Whoa - 80's flashback...)

I have had so many encounters where you try to be nice and give a little in order for people to take even more. Once I offered a family to bring their kids stroller up next to us. We were sitting on a raincoat on the wet ground. They thanked us, put their stroller up, and then slowly squeezed all their adults in until they were all standing on our raincoat and my family ran out of room.

Give 2 inches and they'll take nine.

I have not been to a daytime parade for a long time. I go to the evening parade. If they have two parades I go to the 2nd one. I have not had a problem. We go on rides during the 1st parade.

this also works for airplanes... if an airplane is like 80% full and you dont want somone sitting by you, just have the barf bags out on your lap while people are still picking seats. Works wonders !!!

Haha! Doesn't work on my flights since they are international, however I always have the bags out anyway (nervous flyer) and get very wary looks!

I have also sworn off parades. My kids just aren't into them anyway and its always more hassle than it is worth.

I had some time to kill and I'd never seen the afternoon parade at the MK, so last Dec. I waited over an hour for it on the balcony of the train station. About 5 minutes after it starts, people come flooding in. No problem, except some lady shoves her little princess right in front of my chair practically in my lap! I didn't want to take it out on the poor kid I was feeling sorry for since she had such rude parents, so I smiled and asked if it was her first time seeing the parade. The mom says, "No- we are locals and have an annual pass so we are here all the time." I was thinking- Hey, I'm not! Get your kid off of me!!!
