Paper Piecing ?????

I have seen some of the paper piecings on two peas and ebay and would love to be able to do them for some of my pages. I even bought all of the coloring books at WDW. I have no idea what to do my pieces don't fit correctly.

Any help and guidance that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I don't cut out each piece seperately (esample - arm, leg etc)
I cut out all of 'tinkerbell' for example then I cut out her 'slippers, dress, etc..' and I put those on top of the original - kwim

I do the same thing. I use the skin tone/color as the base and add the clothing, etc. on top.

I've also used my printer sometimes (if it is a coloring pic from the internet) and copied it on skin tone cardstock and clothing cardstock.

I've bookmarked the pix posted of several swaps. You can check there for some of the great stuff the ladies here have done. I haven't done one yet myself. I've been trying to get a supply of scrap pieces in the right colors first.

Thanks for the great tips and links. I was trying to cut out each piece and somehow get them all to fit together. I was making it way toooooo complicated. I know what craft my girls and I are going to try this weekend.

Sounds like you got some good advice here, I'd just like to throw out a couple of more tips. I did start pp doing Disney characters, but I picked a couple that didn't have TONS of pieces. The first two I did were Flounder and Sulley and they both turned out great. I still wouldn't call myself an expert by any means, but found that with practice you get much better. Pooh is another really good one to start with as is Mickey's head. Have fun, it's addicting and you'll find yourself dismanteling every picture you see to see if you can paper piece it - lol!

Ok, please forgive me because I have never attempted to do any pp. How do you start once you have found something to do? For example, I purchased a DCL Coloring Book and there are a few pictures I would like to attempt but what is the next step?

Do I trace the image? Do I transfer an image? How does one go about creating a pp?

Again, forgive me because I am paper Piecing challenged!!!

I first use tracing paper to trace the entire image. Then I make smaller patterns of the individual pieces, then turn the paper over, re-trace (this makes it come out on the back so the lines don't show - make sense), then I slowly add the pieces on top of the large image. It takes a good bit of practice the first few times, that's why I pick larger images with only a few pieces at first. The best thing too was when I started chalking and outlining the edges, it really made it look more professional. Hope this helps.

I use graphite paper to trace my pattern on to the cardstock and you can reuse it over and over. You take your copy of your pattern then put the graphite paper between your pattern and the cardstock and then trace it. Works great and can easily be erased as well.
