This is the first year that we have to file a paper return because we are getting the first time homebuyers credit. Does anyone else file a paper return? Does it really take 6-8 weeks? And is it accurate that it won't show up on the Where is My Refund link for 4 weeks???

Thanks in advance.

In my past experience, it could take that long, but should be less if you file soon. The earlier you file, the quicker you will get your refund. It seems the longer you wait, you will be waiting along with everyone else that puts off filing their taxes until the last minute. Yes, it does take a while for the information to show up on the website. If you have the money direct-deposited into an account it will get to you a bit faster. Good luck!

I always file a paper return in mid to late January and get the refund through direct deposit in about 3 weeks.

I always do paper returns. And none of my tax clients file electronically.

I hate to make you feel worse but we had to file paper for the same reason this year. Our accountant informed us that the IRS was not going to start processing these returns until the middle of February and then to expect it to take 8-10 weeks, They had received some sort of notification from the IRS with these time frames.
sorry

Yes, I was told the same.

We too are filing paper because of the first-time homebuyers credit, and were told that because of the more extensive paperwork required, it was going to be a loooooooong process.

While I am thankful for the credit, I really wish they would have streamlined the process a bit more ahead of time.

I read the same thing online. It's saying not to expect your return until the end of March. UGGGHHH!!! Frankly...its really NOT more paperwork for them. You are mailing in your HUD form proving you bought a house (and the gov't clearly already knows you own a house and haven't owned one before). The part that I really don't like is that there is no way to check that they received your return and are working on it. I efiled our state return last night and by the time I woke up this morning had the email that it was accepted. I hate having no communication from them for a month :headache:

And yes, I'm very thankful for the credit...just annoyed that it was never mentioned anywhere in all the stuff they gave us saying that we were GETTING the credit that it was going to take 2 1/2 months to get our return back.
