Question: Do you wear pantyhose with formals???

Help me out here. I have only worn formals to Christmas parties and of course I did then. But it seems so hot on a cruise...

What do you do???

When we went on the 3-day cruise with our land package, neither I nor my sister-in-law wore them. Of course, we didn't have a Captain's formal. Our next 7-day cruise in 80 days, I don't plan on wearing them then either.

Never do panty hose/nylons. Awful things to wear in the heat. Just get a great tan and you will never tell the difference!!!

There is no way that I will wear pantihose while on vacation - especially in a hot climate with formal wear. Bare legs are perfectly acceptable, particularly if you are wearing strappy sandals. I left them at home on the last 2 Disney cruises and will do this coming one also. I vote you leave them at home!
Cheers,
Lorraine

Maybe it's the banker in me coming out but I would never, ever consider wearing a dress (formal or not) with heels without wearing pantyhose! If it were a really casual sundress that I was wearing with sandals, maybe I might skip the pantyhose (but probably not).

It's not like I like wearing them (I don't), I was just brainwashed into thinking it is tacky if you don't wear them. I was the one at the bank who always had to enforce the "proper undergarments" things at work...you know, pantyhose are req'd, bra's are req'd, tatoo's must be covered, no more than 1 earring in each ear and all of those other stuffy banker type rules.

Sonya, I was a bank VP and marketing director for 15 years, so I understand about the pantyhose brainwashing! ;)

That said, now that I have been OUT of suits and pantyhose for three years I can't stand to wear them. :) You never see pantyhose with formalwear anymore it seems....the bare leg and strappy sandal are IN, and that's good enough for me. Take a look at all of the awards ceremonies and I bet there is not a single woman wearing pantyhose there, because they all wear dressy sandals on their feet...so if you want to go bare, then go for it, you'll be fine. :)

Bare legs all the way! No pantyhose on vacations- they're for work only (gotta follow those rules  ). There are no rules on vacation.:D

Although etiquette guidelines dictate them, NO WAY (unless you need them to smooth out some bumps under a fitted gown)! Especially not with anything open-toed in the shoe area!!!

Let's have a pantyhose burning revolution!! I can't stand them. The last time I wore hose, my 5 year old asked "Mommy, what are THOSE???" No one will care at all if you are not wearing hose, so if you don't want to, then don't wear them!! -Sue

With sandals, especially open toe...No.
With regular heels/dress shoes...Absolutely

Another former banker here too. :D

I wore them only on formal night with a black cocktail dress and dress shoes. Would not have looked right without pantyhose.

I did NOT wear them with my sundresses and casual skirts for the other nights - even to Palos! I never wear pantyhose from early spring to late fall. It is way too hot and humid in the south to have them melting to your legs!LOL

I think it depends if your dress and the shoes you have would look right without pantyhose.

Maybe it's my age, maybe it's my strict Catholic school upbringing, but I don't feel dressed without panty hose (I never go out with my hair in rollers or without makeup or earrings, either!).

I don't mind wearing them. I don't tan, so my legs are really pale, and I just look and feel better in them. I also don't mind heat, so that isn't an issue.

Let me expain my previous post. I, too, wear hose everyday at work. I am a high school marketing teacher who teaches proper dress for employment-which requires pantihose. With that said-I will be on vacation (in a warm climate) I try not to wear hose from June 15(when school gets out) until the day after Labor Day (when school starts)
If you want to wear it, however, I won't stop you, but do recommend you stay near the air conditioning! LOL

Just wear open toe shoes if you don't want to wear pantyhose, because then you CAN'T wear them! I can count on one hand how many times I've worn hose since I've lived in FL (over 6 years) and then it was usually black hose. I think if I was in a 'gown' or a 'traditional' suit I'd wear them if I had closed toe shoes, but then again, after 6 years in FL, I'm down to only one pair of closed toe shoes that aren't sneakers.

I am going to wear a long dress for formal night, just so I do not have to wear pantyhose! I'm with Barb, I might sneak on a pair of knee-highs. Course, I'm pretty casual, one of my major tasks come spring is to shave my legs!

Just do not spray pantyhose with Off! bug spray. We were at a Club Med on Eluthera many years ago and the mosquitos were awful, I was sans pantyhose. But on one dress-up evening women wore panty hose, one women sprayed her legs and the hose started to dissolve!

Hate, hate, hate panty hose in heat and humidity!

No, No, No, Hose! I do not even own a pair and will not buy them for the cruise to be hot and uncomfortable!
Another no hose vote!:p
