Panicking we decided against Concierge

What's TOTALLY wrong?

We sailed concierge just once in 11 cruises. It just wasn't for us. The concierge staff were very nice, but we preferred to do things for ourselves. Our concierge sailing was our 6th cruise. On our 7th cruise we paid attention to the things we did for ourselves that we could have had in concierge. Things like specialty drinks, coffee, popcorn, tickets to meet/greets. What we spent in the extras was less than the tip we had given to the concierge staff on the previous cruise. We never considered concierge again.

I was in the same situation as the OP once so that's why I replied. During my research, I read reply after reply saying there wasn't much difference between concierge and non-concierge and I believed it. Unfortunately we noticed a huge difference and we regretted not cruising concierge. It was a huge mistake and a huge letdown for my family. We learned our lesson and haven't made the same mistake twice.

So panicking might be overstating things. We are less than 6 months away from doing a B2B on the Disney Dream in January.

Are there many concierge rooms available on the 2nd half of the B2B? If there are, you could get a Concierge room on the first half and try for a port upgrade on the 2nd. That would significantly reduce the cost.

We have done 26 cruises with DCL, almost all concierge and this summer we could not afford concierge. I was worried about it because we have been spoiled and are used to all the extras. We were lucky enough to get cabin 6014 when our stateroom was assigned. It is very large, and was nice to have the extra room, and since we cruised with friends there were only a few perks we really missed.

Our first cruise was in the Walt Disney suite on the Magic, our second cruise was in a deluxe family with verandah suite on the Wonder. We had a fantastic time on both cruises! Our upcoming cruise is also in a deluxe family verandah on the Fantasy, we can't wait! I didn't really even notice much of a difference between concierge and non-concierge until we went through the disembarkation process. Concierge was must faster and our bags were apart from all of the others. We were just fine locating our own bags though. You'll have a fabulous time sailing non concierge!

We booked concierge for our first cruise in 2004. In the 14 cruises since, we always had a concierge room. We like the lounge, and the little perks, but the one main thing for us is the room in the 1BR suites. I dont think you will have a bad time not sailing concierge, but its all up to you on how you feel with the added amenities. There is only one thing I wish I had known earlier. We now transfer our new reservation to Costco because they give you a Costco Cash Card worth 8.5% of the cruise cost. With the higher cost of concierge, it really adds up. Our next cruise get us a cash card for $1075. I feel like I gave a lot of money away before we knew about that deal.

So panicking might be overstating things. We are less than 6 months away from doing a B2B on the Disney Dream in January. We initially booked the trip on a whim and decided against concierge as it was going to be an extra $3500 for two adults on opening day. While we have only ever sailed concierge, we simply couldn't justify the cost. We can take that money and put it toward another cruise or a stay at AKL in February.

However now, we are starting to panic (a little) since we have only ever sailed concierge and loved every moment of it. Will we miss the little perks? I know there will be a few added costs since we won't have access to the lounge. We will buy bottled water on the cruise and I'll purchase 1-2 lattes a day from the Cove Cafe. We might skip Palo/Remy this time and we aren't interested in getting a cabana. We will be staying on the ship at Nassau so no Port Adventures to be booked either. We will try and get the Princess Meet and Greet one one of the cruises.

I have allergies, which I assume will be on file from our past cruises. I will remind them a month before we set sail and again when we board. They have always been amazing with my allergies (I have several)

Has anyone else only sailed concierge and then had a regular room. Was it a let down? Was it still amazing? We are really looking forward to the cruise and I'm positive we are feeling a little panicked over nothing but some reassurance would help greatly.

Are we forgetting anything else that concierge offers that we will have to do ourselves.

We've had two amazing non-concierge Disney cruises. All guests on DCL have comfortable cabins and good service. Concierge might be a cut above in terms of both, but non-concierge is still very good. It's not like the difference between staying deluxe and value at WDW. We typically stay deluxe at WDW, but are happy with non-concierge on DCL.
