Can someone please tell me how to rescue my files? While reviewing some photos I took yesterday (and turning them to the correct orientation as I looked) my card crashed and all 500 plus images are gone.

I know there are rescue programs out there. Can someone please recommend a good one?

Thanks,

Penny

Update - got them back! I put the card back in the camera and found my images. Put card in a different card reader and uploaded them.

Before I did too much radical, I'd POWER EVERYTHING OFF GRACEFULLY (controlled shutdown) and power back up and see where I was. You might be surprised.

I know this is after the fact but it's good advice for others that might be reading. It is never a good idea to do any kind of editing on any kind of card, even if it's just something seemingly as simple as rotations. Get the stuff off. Get it backed up, and THEN and only then, begin your workflow.

Thanks and you are so right!

Never again - upload and then turn from now on.

An old post, but I thought I'd respond given that this is good advice for anyone.

First, try turning the camera off, wait a second, then turn it on again. Sometime it's a little glitch that fixes itself (I've had that happen before). I've actually removed the battery, put it back in, and had things work again.

If that doesn't work, there are several programs you can use that can try to rescue your photos. My brother and I are a long-distance photography team - he shoots real estate photography and I am his editor. A few months ago after getting home from shooting a particularly bear of a house, his card reader had a corrupt directory error. He put the card back in his camera and there was nothing on it. Long story short, the free program he tried first only recovered random pictures from weeks prior, nothing from that day. He ended up buying Photo Recovery by LC-Tech and got all of his pictures back.

Another tip is to to make sure you always format your card after you successfully transfer the photos AND back them up. Formatting vs simply deleting all is better for the card.

If you have access to a card reader, try PhotoRec, I had success recovering files from a flaky SD card a couple months ago.
