Hello everyone

Have any of you had them?

Ive been havin them recently they are so scary, Saturday night i thought i was dyin of a heart attack and i went to the hospital to get someone to reassure me i was ok and they done a ECG on me and then gave me some diazepam so i could calm down!

Just want to say i feel for anyone that gets them they are awful! =( x

Dh had these quite alot after his dad died, so I know how awful and scary they can be
He went for counsalling and was prescribed citilipram which helps keep him calm .now he understands why they are happening he seems to be able to cope and they are less frequent
I hope you feel better soon:hug:

I used to have them when I was a teenager and it was horrible. I hope you sort yours out quickly

Thanks everyone im glad u understand some people think ur silly but u just cant help it =( x

I used to get them in the middle of the night, I know it sounds stupid but I would wake up and my heart would be pounding and I'd start shaking. I went to the GP but rather than medication he sent me for counciling to try and get to the root of the issue. It's like a vicious circle, you panic, the effects make you panic more and it continues. Hopefully things have calmed down now. I hope yours go away soon. If you do have them try to read or listen to music to take your mind of it, that helped me.

Hi there

Im sorry to hear that your having panic attacks and I can sympathise with you completly. I used to have them dreadfully some years back. They are so frightening, I had the most dreadful one once whilst driving, I had to pull over and phone a friend, who came to resuce me as I thought I was having a stroke, it was very real and frightening to me at the time, as I completley went numb in my arms and legs and face and then had pins and needles, I too went to hospital in an ambulance, had loads of tests and then they diagonsed an Anxiety attack. The Pins and Needles were caused by my breathing too fast and hyper-ventilating.

I tried tablets, but they lowered my blood pressure too much, which made me feel faint, so my doctor then sent me for councilling, which was brilliant. It all stemmed from my very messy Divorce, my mother suffering from epileptic fits, and general depression. The biggest hurdle for me to overcome wasnt the attacks themselves, but the phobia of having an attack when I was out. I didnt want to drive, or go out and socialise in fear of having an attack in front of people, however I had a great network of friends who understood, that if I felt as though I was going to have a panic attack, were very understanding and reasuuring, and with the help of the counciller and my friends, I was soon feeling much better and learning how to cope if I did panic.

I havent had a major panic attack now for a long time, although I know now how to calm myself down should I feel even the slightest hint of the adrenalin in my body starting to flare up. If im driving, I sing, after all its impossible to breath to fast if your singing, and if Im shopping or in a meeting, I just think positive thoughts and tell myself this will pass, and try to calm myself of the flight or flight feelings of panic.

Good luck to you, this will pass, as hard as it is when having a panic attack, just keep as calm as you can and tell yourself it will pass.

My elder dd had a spate of them recently and it was terrifying for her. She ended up fainting and being sick whilst her boyfriend was trying to put her on a train in London which was very scary for them both. Since then she seems to have been a lot better. I took her to her GP who was worse than useless, but she's also had counselling which has helped.

I occasionally get anxiety attacks, but they're not full-blown panic attacks.

That is wonderful advice Sue. They are awful things, I suffered from them badly after my mother died, but thankfully they seem to have gone away, I've not had one for may years. I had my first one of the plane back from Orlando after we got the news of my mothers illness and had to fly home, it took a long time before I felt confident to fly again. Thankfully, I had Ian and great friends. You will get throught this, big hugs to you

I have had a few and i was told to keep a brown paper bag to hand and breathe into that if i ever get another one, luckily i never have.

I saw my best friend suffering these many years ago whilst going through a nasty divorce so I understand how scary and frustrating it must be for you. Sending you :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I haven't had panic attacks but like Deb do get anxiety attacks once in a while and they do upset me so I can imagine how scary a panic attack would be. I hope you feel better

I get them whenever I spend a night away from home, they are the worst thing ever! I've been having them for over a year now. I think trying to distract yourself from the attack is a good idea.

I had a couple of anxiety attacks on holiday last year due to a bullying/psycho MIL!

Another family member gave me some bachs remedy and when I felt anxious I sprayed this on my toungue and it really worked. Not enough to tell her where to shove it but then that would be a miricle cure! :lmao:

Your not alone at all
I have suffered them for many years. My father died when I was 9 from a massive heart attack,I think this is what gets me all panicky and anxious I have so many fears and death is one of them.
I also get them when I worry about something especially flying. Back in 2004 I ended up wired up to a ECG after suffering palpatations. I then found out my heart beats a few mins per min than normal but nothing to worry about.
HOWEVER when it does palpatate it then triggers a panic attack:eek: so then I panic and its like a ongoing circle.
I've found to try and stay as calm as possibly, breathe deep breathes and sit down.
I havent tried any medication,Ive found just sitting breathing deeply has helped.

Sadly many people will suffer one or more in there life.

{hugs} x
