PANDORA Revealed

Are Disney film crews with him? They are doing filming for the Christmas parade this week I believe, so could be a bit promoting the AK expansions.
Well according to the update I posted about a week ago in the news thread a stage was being put in front of the tree of life for a private event. If they were promoting expansions I don't think they would need a stage.

1) Ogre (I mean Iger) is at AK this evening (11/9/15) for some kind of announcement in front of The Tree of Life.
2) Maybe we learn something new?

He's announcing his resignation, effective immediately? Oh, please, please, please!

I am sort of losing interest in Avatar land.

Good. My plan is working. Now call them and tell them to scrap the whole concept and make it Beastly Kingdom. Then we are all happy.

Change the Navi water ride to a dark Maleficient thorn brush ride. Change the flying lizard ride into a dragon ride. Add a Villian meet and greet. And eventually a dark castle in that area.

So you want to change the rides to the exact same rides - but just not branded Avatar. Clever. That would certainly be more popular!

Despite what the movie is like I think thematically the land will be quite amazing. I also don't think you can just change it to Beastly kingdom at this point it would be even more costly.

When do you visit?

Next Spring (May). The timing is forced by my parents traveling from the UK. I might catch Frozen Ever After, but DS will still be a building site, Pandora will be at least six months away from opening, Soaring is down, and, much to my daughter's disgust, BTMR will be closed. We timed this one impeccably. :)

(oh and some something HS).

Well yeah it definitely won't be done by spring 2016. Frozen is likely. Majority of Disney Springs will be done.

OT for this thread, but do you think so? Looking at DS today, and with the planned closing/re-theme of Planet Hollywood, I was assuming DS would pretty much be a late 2016, early 2017 deal. I know much of it is done already, and assuredly some walls might come down over the next few months, but we seem a ways off still.

When are they planning to flood the springs, and remove the walls over the water way bridges?

Yes I was serious about retheming.

Why? I'm sure Pandora and floating mountains and bioluminescence is cool and all - but really - Disney of all companies has to look outside their own properties to theme a new land?

There's NOTHING in all of Disney's properties that would've made a better new land than Avatar? A one hit controversial non-Disney property? Beastly Kingdom. Nah. Indiana Jones adventure land? No way. Jungle Book? Forget about it. Villains land? Nope. Even Up with its conservation theming? Take the play area froM California Adventure - add a balloon ride over the rain forests, mix in a water ride down the Amazon. Nope nope nope.

I. Just. Don't. Get. It. Leave the non-owned themed lands to Universal. Disney has more than enough properties to pull from.

Personally I think it's an overreaction to Harry Potter. They are trying to make an immersive experience. With Navi and feeling like you stepped into the world. Great for Harry Potter and Star Wars. But Avatar? I've never heard of a person pretend to be there - kids don't dress like those characters at Halloween. There aren't whole groups trying to bring Pandora to life like there is with Harry Potter or Star Wars. I guess I see it as an interesting concept and then a flop.

Well I'm expecting each place will continue to open as it finishes. The landing is nearly finished with just a few pieces left. Town center I'm expecting will open section by section as well. Town center doesn't really affect the guests too much right now because it's out of the way. Disney quest has yet to closer for NBA experience. Overall I wouldn't expect the entire project to be done until late 2016 but a good amount will be done in the spring.

It's not like Disney was looking for a property to put into AK. Originally the plan was to put a small avatar attraction into DHS but then after some collaboration Staggs said lets do a land in AK.

Avatar is the largest grossing movie of all time you can't dispute that. I also don't think avatar was a reaction Harry Potter. If it was it would've been built by now and open to the public. DHS for example was a reaction to Universal opening their Orlando park.

Personally I don't think at this point they would even consider changing the theme with how far along they are. You also can't call it flop yet because it's not even open. I also gala rate you won't be able to judge it's flop until years after its open because lines of any new attraction are usually quite long.
