My nephew loves Panda's and his birthday is coming up and I was thinking of sending him something Panda related like a cookie bouquet or something along that lines - I rally couldn't find anything online and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions - TY

How about adopting a panda in his name? Depending on which organization you go through the adoption will include some combination of updates, photos, adoption certificate, gift basket, etc. We adopted baby elephants for people this past Christmas and everyone went nuts. The sponsorships are good for one year and everyone has already said they want next year's Christmas gift to be a renewal, so I guess it's saved us a lot of future gift-giving headaches too.

At least on the West Coast there's 99 Ranch Market, which has in store bakeries that sell these:

I've seen them in person. The cookie dough is literally rolled/formed into these shapes and then cut and baked. It's a pattern formed by the way the dough is laid out.

I'm not sure if you can find anything like it in your area. You might even be able to make something similar. It's just a butter cookie recipe but where the dark part uses cocoa or food coloring.

It does take a lot of skill and practice to get anything that looks remotely like the ones sold commercially.

Agree. :thumbsup2 How about making a big panda cookie? If you divide dough chocolate/butter, it should only be a bunch of round balls. You can wrap it well in bubble wrap and ship.

Thank you all so much for the ideas - love them

I really love the idea of adopting a Panda in his name - never thought about that, I will look into that.

TipsyTraveler - Can you let me know what organization you went thru, I think this is the perfect idea

Well, my sponsorships are through the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, but they're a rehab and release facility for orphaned elephants and rhinos only so that's not going to help you. I googled "adopt a panda" and it came back with a bunch of options -- WWF, National Wildlife Foundation, Pandas International, World Animal Foundation, National Zoo, San Diego Zoo, adoptapanda.net (this is a UK affiliate of WWF but the prices look very reasonable). The cost to adopt and what you get in return varies quite a bit between these organizations so you'll have to figure out the best fit for you.

I will say, the elephant adoptions we did are fun because you got to read the backstories and pick a specific orphan by name and then people receive monthly email updates pertaining to their foster. People feel very invested in "their" elephant that way. If there's something comparable for pandas I would go with that. Unless your nephew is very young, then he might prefer one of the gift bag/receive a stuffed panda type of adoptions.

Thank you - I so love this idea and am going to remember for holiday & birthdays.

I've used Cookies By Design to send cookies to others in cute bouquets. They do have a Zoo bouquet that has a panda so since you know they have the cutter, maybe they could do a custom one that's all pandas.
