Hello all,

I haven't posted here but have lurked from time to time. I am not a runner but who knows, maybe someday. I am a walker and had been doing really well with my walks-then about a month ago I got bit by a dog while on my walk. It was just a little dog that ran right out in the road and bit my leg. :confused3 It's been kind of a pain going to the doctor, getting a tetnus shot, reporting the dog bite to the police. It was just a small puncture wound but the bruise covered most of my calf. The bruise is almost gone but I now have a hardness under the skin that is maybe an internal bruise or scar tissue??

Anyway to make a long story long....I have not been walking as much as I need to. I really enjoy walking outside but have been trying to use the treadmill more now. I tend to get bored on the treadmill-does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the time go by faster while on the treadmill?? I listen to music and the podcast now, but even that can get old after a while.

You all are doing so well on your goals and I hope to do as well on mine.

Deanna

"NO GAIN" is also a positive! You're "the gal" for getting up and exercising at 5:30 am! I get UP at 5:30 no problem, but I need a certain amount of caffine and kick start before I can get to the gym.:lmao:

I think you have lots of discipline if you can get up at 5:30 a.m. to exercise. That is awesome. I have trouble stuggling out of bed at 7:00.:cheer2:

Thank you both! Today was the 6th straight week day that I have been at the gym at 5:30 am. On Saturday and Sunday, I went but mid morning instead. I plan to keep going in the early mornings during the week but my gym buddy wants to take Friday off. We'll see, I may just go mid morning or may take the day off too. That will be my first day off in 11 days if I do.

Poor thing! Sorry you are going through this  Being bitten by a little dog is something I haven't really worried about before. I think that has changed!

As far as getting bored on the treadmill, I listen to music or talk to my friend or DH. The other day, my earbuds went out and I was by myself. That was the longest 45 mins at the gym! Plus, the 2 guys beside me kept talking about the girl's "booty" in front of them. Glad they were only there 15 mins!

As far as not being a runner, never thought I would enjoy it. Actually, I think I was just scared. But once I started, it became a new goal, something else other than weight to work for.

Good luck to you!!! Welcome to the thread!

Oh, that's TERRIBLE! Really put you off your stroke, didn't it? Poor Baby! I'm not a dog lover for that very reason - got bit by a tiny dog as a child. My former boss has gone over his handle bars twice because of dogs. But I blame the owners, for not keeping them under control.

Down to 211. Creeping up ever so slowly on the major milestone!

no runner here - trying to get going on the eliptical because I know that's what there is on the ship - did 1.5 minutes this morning. Tomorrow - going for 2! lol.

I had kinda given up on this thread, when I logged in it was always me that had posted last so I stopped looking, its a great thread and I love reading about every body.

Carmie hows the running going?

Jen you really are doing amazing.

I lost 7 lbs then gained and now lost again, i really must get out this cycle, iive bought a book about yo yo dieting and binge eating which I do both of I have to admit, I cant take one biscuit out a packet, I eat till I am stuffed which is usually the whole packet!
I still dont know how I managed to loose 9 stone, I really do struggle to maintain, but really I dont maintain I am either dieting or eating anything I fancy.
Any way, its seems good, its about how you use eating to comfert you, which again I agree, I will read it all before I comment on it, its a big big an america but Im too tired to think of its name right now.

Down 31.5 pounds!!!! More than half way to my goal!!!!!!
Wow, WTG Jen!!!!

(I guess I'm half way to my goal, too. - 58. At this rate, I'll be 70 before I get there, lol)
You're doing great too! Keep up the good work!

Carmie hows the running going?
To be honest, haven't been running much as I'd like. I run about once or twice a week and it's usually only 5K. When I go to the gym with my friend (which is most of the time), it's usually the only 1 on 1 adult interaction I have for the day. Being a stay at home and home schooling mom, I don't get out to socialize hardly any. Yes, my gym time is also my socializing time :rotfl: Anyway, even though I enjoy running, it's not something I can do and still visit with my friend so I usually do the elliptical or stairmaster where I can still visit some. I feel that my mental health is just as important :goodvibes As soon as it cools down, I want to get out and run. There is no way I'm getting out in 95-100 temps with 90% humidity to run. There are some days I feel like I'm being smothered as soon as I walk outside. It's bad that when almost everyday at 5:30 am my glasses fog up when I step outside.

:hug:Sounds liek the story of my life of my adult life! I have lost and gained I don't know how many times. I'll lose, get comfortable, and gain it back. The two times I was able to keep it off for any amount of time, we got pregnant and then I struggled. I'm actually down about 10 pounds from this time last year, but up 5 from my low during that time. I'm still in the same size, they're just a bit snug. I never did get to my goal of 130, got to 136 but now 141. Been working out, eating low cal, weight just wasn't budging. So, I started low carb today. I know, I know, it's not the best diet to be on. But, it has worked for me before. In early 2004, I did the Atkins for 3 months while going to Curves and lsot 25 pounds and kept it off for 1.5 years before getting pregnant with DS. I just made sure I kept exercising and not overdoing it on eating. So, I'm at it again and hopefully this is what I will need to get those last 11 pounds off.

I am only down 40, but it is going so sloooooow...
What do you mean ONLY? 40 pounds is quite an accomplishment and something to be very proud of! Excellent!!!!

Good luck on the half!! My goal is just to keep running enough to do the CC5K! And like i said yesterday, hopefully the cooler/less humid weather will encourage me to get out! I just have to wait for it to get here. :goodvibes

Wanted to share this pic with y'all:
sidebyside.JPG

On the Left was a week ago, on the right was March. That was probably my heaviest, right about 190 (and a size 16). The right is about 150 and a size 8. I still have a bit to go, I'd like to lose more of my hips and thighs. I didn't realize how much I had lost until I saw these side by side.

WTG Jen! :yay: Keep up the good work. I know what you mean about not noticing until you see a picture of yourself. I keep a picture of me on my dresser from last summer. I'm about 15 pounds heavier in that picture and it is VERY noticeable, especially in my face.

You have done Great! I can't believe I'm down 45 lbs as of this am. 5 more lbs and I am at my 1/2 way weight. Then I can buy myself a treat, from the Blue Ribbon Bakery ay Disneyland. :rotfl:

You have done excellent as well!!! Enjoy that treat at DL - it is well deserved :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone!! It's me, Connie. I am joining this group because I have flat-lined (on the scales) and I just yesterday started an intensive diet program that I vow to work at until the day I leave for FL.

My story is - always heavy. I got a lap band almost two years ago, and have lost 81 lbs. Don't be too impressed, it's only about 1/2 of what Ineed to lose to get to a healthy wight. But I am determined right now.

So, I am going to Lindora Medical Weight Loss Center. There is a clinic about a mile from my house, so it is very convenient. I will go every weekday to weigh in, and will follow their program (high protein, no fat, very low carb) and receive vitamin b injections.

Their main indicator of success in their program is being in a state called ketosis. The protein is increased in your body, and somehow that triggers your body to begin burning stored fat. The nurses have you test your urine daily and can tell if you are in ketosis.

They also will monitor my health closely; blood pressure, blood chemistry, general well-being, etc.

Now I just need to get motivated to start sweating...I hate to sweat. I mean, HATE to sweat. When I exercise, I turn red and blotchy, my hair gets lank and flat, and my face goes white...how does a dope like me get past the obstacle she herself has put down? :rolleyes1

So, I just need to listen to DH when he says, hey, let's go for a walk. Then I need to hit the treadmill. And start doing my yoga again.

Anyway, that's my story. Hi and Hello and How do you do. I am on this journey and there is no turning back! :cool1:

You can do it, Connie!

I'll tell you my gym story. I can't even work hard enough to sweat - I start to cough first and gasp for breath before I reach that point.

There is a rehab hospital near me with a wellness center and well heated theraputic pool. A couple years ago, I had a problem with my achilles tendon/heel and after 6 weeks in a boot that didn't help, they sent me for pt. It was amazingly successful. I have no pain now, at all.

So, anyway, I was qvetching at my doc - they did such a great job with my pain, I sure wish they could do the same for my fibromyalgia! SO he sent me back for that. Besides teaching me exercises, they put me in the pool and taught me to exercise in the pool. It was much easier because the warm water was relaxing, and it bears most of the weight so there's not so much stress on the joints.

After the pt ended, I kept on going to the pool 3 days a week at 7 am. Well, there was a good group of people there at that hour (the oldest one is 87!) so that kept me pretty religious. Then I added saturday and met some more people who were pretty inspirational.

After about 9 months in the pool, I went across the hall to the fitness center and they showed me the recumbant cross trainer - I could sit down and move both arms and legs. Then it became a game, to see how long I could go - or if I could up the number of steps and so forth.

March of 2009, I was diagnosed with diabetes - and told I needed to exercise more. So I added various machines - back extensions, abs, hips, arms, etc. I also met more people - with cancer, MS, more oldies and 'older' oldies. if THEY can get here at 6 am to work out, so can I.

Somewhere along the line - it became fun - I like it - I like the facetime with other people, even though it's casual. I like the way they encourage each other. And finally, I like the way I feel - I actually miss it when I don't go. Usually 4-6 times a week, either gym or pool or both. I've lost about 58 pounds and controled my sugar to the point I'll come off medication next month.

All that was to say this - if I can do it, you can too! You just have to start slow, and commit yourself to go, until it's second nature.

The other thing, I think that is important is to find the right place - not a gym with self absorbed 'pretty' jocks lifting tons of weights - but one where everyone is struggling for their own self improvement.

Walking with your husband is a great start - but walking alone will never take off the kind of weight you want to. I'd like to take off 58 more pounds, but even my routine isn't going to do it for me - I've reached a plateau and it's not enough. I must do more. But psyching yourself up to "kick it up a notch" isn't easy.

Remember the old joke - how do you catch a unique rabbit? You (s)neak up on it. That's my theory of kicking it up a notch - I sneak up on it. Slow, yes. but you get there, eventually. GOOD LICK!

81 pounds is AWESOME. You took the step to do something and it is paying off! As far as exercise, try to start slow and build up. Have you ever watched The Biggest Loser? Those contestants can't even hardly walk on a treadmill and by the end of the season (just a few months), some of them are running marathons! Most of them can't run marathons but they are still working out big time and running 5Ks at the end. They all built up to it.

I've lost about 58 pounds and controled my sugar to the point I'll come off medication next month.

Linda, that is GREAT! Especially the part about being able to come off your meds!

Thanks for the encouragement, ladies. I need it!!

So, I started the Lindora program on Friday. 245 lbs. Worked at following the first three days, which are all "protein days". That means that carbs are kept between 50-70 daily. I went in for my first weigh-in today, and I lost five pounds. :yay: Not bad for the first three days. But, I've seen these five pounds before. They have a tendency to come and go. :rotfl2:

Anyway George and I are going for a brisk walk in a little while. It's pretty cool here tonight, but we'll make it. Don't laugh at us...we are Californians, and that makes us full-on weather babies!! :rotfl:

Good Job, Connie! Not familiar with the Lindora program, but I try to limit my carbs to 60-90 per day as a life style - it seems to be the only way I can control my hunger!

Oh, and drink LOTS OF WATER! I weigh MORE when I'm dehydrated.

YOU CAN DO IT!
