Panama Canal - Anyone Else Waiting Eagerly?

We are looking to book the Panama Cruise again for fall of 2017. Went last year in 2015 and it was the most relaxing and fun cruise ever. This time we will taking our daughter who will be 8 almost 9.

I somehow missed the whole Mazatlan news + possible Mexican riviera cruises! Well, dang. Now I'm torn between waiting to do a PC in October (we have a small farm and that timing is much better for us) or doing the May PC, and booking a shorter MR cruise in October...

To those of you that have done the PC cruises, which did you prefer, May or Fall? Which had more children?

We are going this May with DD who is 8.5 years. Should be a good age, semi independent but not yet a teenager, LOL.

It was a lovely trip in 2015. We loved all the sea days and extras that DCL offers on the longer cruises. I highly recommend it, especially if you have kids. There were so few kids on board that the one on one interactions were worth every penny alone.

I'm also anxiously awaiting this release ... We went on the EBPC in October 2015 and want to do WB in 2017. There were so few kids onboard (we have 2) that I don't know if I could go back to a regular cruise after being so spoiled!

We have done both EB & WB. The kid #'s seem to be the same. I think it rained a little bit more in the fall than the spring. But still not too much.
Can't go wrong with either one.

We are waiting to hear about this cruise as well. Hoping that the dates work out for us. If it is an April 23rd departure, we're in!

We did their first one -- east bound -- in 2005 and LOVED IT. It was an amazing trip and a wonderful sailing. Flew into Las Vegas, spent a couple of days then drove to LA, spent time at Disneyland then dropped the car off at the port in Long Beach and sailed out. That day going through the locks was one of our most memorable. I remember they even had a BBQ on deck and a narrator. We saw monkeys and parrots in the jungles, and my husband saw crocs along one of the beaches as we sailed. He got up at the crack of dawn to see them bring the pilot out to the Magic -- the Captain is not allowed to steer the boat through the locks. TIP: Be sure to go down to guest services while in one of the locks so you can see the water go past the windows as the locks fill up! You can also see all the damage along the walls of the lock from boats hitting it (paint, etc). I remember that during the westbound sailing one of the porthole windows got damaged.

They've changed the dates and itinerary so much in the last decade. The first one they did returned east in August. It was very hot. I'm sure either May or Fall would be fine and not quite as hot. I guess it depends on whether the ports are different.

I am waiting too. I am anxious to see if the westbound in 2017 will stop at Castaway Cay. I know they haven't for the last few years, but those have left from Miami. Since it looks like this one will leave from Port Canaveral, I have my hopes up! It looks like it will leave on April 23 and I checked the locations of the other 3 ships for April 24, and none of them will be at CC that day. Fingers crossed!

i feel like we have been waiting ages for the EBPC. we were supposed to do it this year, but when it got scheduled in august instead of october, decided to wait until next year. i'm really hoping the 2017 dates work out better for us - i don't want to have to put it off another year!

I totally hear you - we were supposed to be on the WBPC in 2015, then the EBPC in 2015 then the WBPC in 2016. We ARE going on this one. I don't care if I have to sail the dang boat myself LOL
