My husband and I were talking last night about possibly doing Pampered Chef for a little extra money. I was just wondering if anybody on the Dis has/does this? I would be interested in any advice that could be offered.

Thanks!

all I know is in my area no one is having any of these type parties because with the economy none of their friends have any disposable income.

I agree--actually people are having parties, no one is buying.

I have a friend that is a PC consultant and moved up to area director. She got in when PC was still "young" and has been doing it for about 20 years now. She made enough money to cover their house payment each month and often won trips so they used those as family vacations. With the market so saturated with home party companies, I don't know if it is possible to make great money. The hardest part is is all nights and weekends. My friend has enough repeat customers that she mainly just does "book" parties now-basically has a "hostess" and emails out that they are putting together an order and does anyone need anything.

My husband started doing this in December and he's made about $200 bucks a month in January and February and I think he's closer to $400 bucks for March. He's done about one show a week to be making those numbers, but he is loving it as a second job. He hopes to build it to be his only job but knows that it will take some time especially with the economy the way it it is today.

BTW we are in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC.

I think that for anyone to do well as a home sale consultant, they have to have a steady stream of parties, and I also think that is difficult to do.

A close friend of mine has a cousin who became a sales consultant for Premier Design jewelry. My friend threw a jewelry party and they both did well enough, but there were only 2 or 3 people who signed up to do future parties that day. My friend tells me that her cousin is no longer doing it because she ran out of people willing to have parties. Once the cousin hit all her own friends, family and neighbors, it dried out.

So I would say that before you invest in a lot of demonstration products, you'd better have a bunch of people lined up to hold parties.

Good luck!

I am a consultant. I have been selling Pampered Chef for over a year. I love it. I like that I make my own schedule, and decide how much I would like to work. If I have no special plans that month, I try to do a show a week but because of my busy schedule, I usually only do about 2 shows a month, but that brings me about an extra $200 a month. You only have to $150 in sales a month to stay active and that is really only 1 show a month. I disagree that people are not buy.. ( at least in this area) my upline consultant, does about 2 or 3 shows a week and takes home about $2000 a month. I would love to do that but with my kids schedules, I just cant. Send me a PM if you have any questions.

While I do not do Pampered Chef, I am a Tastefully Simple consultant. Here are some questions I have for you. When you have these type of parties yourself, how many of your friends and family book a party? Will they all be willing to have a party for you? What type of social network do you have? Kids in school or other activities that you can ask fellow parents if they would have a party? It is so important that you have a solid base of people who will have a party for you so you can build your client list and continue to get more parties. While I do "ok" I do not do anywhere near what I want to do. My problem is getting the bookings from people outside of family/friends so I can build up to having new clients booking parties.

That said, Pampered Chef is fun. I love having partied with them myself, and am always finding new gadgets to buy. What I like about PC and TS is the re-order customers. Maybe not for the gadgets that PC sells, but at least for the spices you can build a steady re-order business.

Thank you for your advice, everyone. Some of my concerns were addressed by some posters also.

You bring up some very good questions that I do have to ask myself. The biggest reason I thought about doing this was because I've been out of a full time job for over a year and half and sadly, although I've been applying to places, nothing looks promising at all. Due to the fact that my DH's car died two weeks ago, we had to buy a new car and I was hoping that maybe this could help with those payments.

I'll talk to my husband some more about it. :)

If you can afford the start up fee, I say go for it. Ask all friends/family/neighbors if they will come to your blast off party AND book a show with you. You should be able to get at least 4 bookings to start with, and that is a good start but the more the better. Also, unless you are set on PC, look at some other companies to compare start up costs along with what your sales quotas are. If you are interested, I can tell you what Tastefully Simple's are.

You need to be a very outgoing person and able to approach people, willing to follow through, and be comfortable with the products. I had a close friend that decided to sell PC and I had her first party to help her out. I love her to death but she didn't have the cooking skills, know how, or the type of personality to sell PC. She didn't know how to use the products and she was not comfortable speaking in front of a group. She only had a few more parties, did a few catalog things and then got out of it.

Oh look, Luv2Scrap is once again quoting lovetoscrap. It's funny how often we do this!

You just described me about 6-7 years ago. I loved PC products and wanted to make a little extra money, but I wasn't very comfortable speaking in public (although I did know how to use the products! LOL). After two years of school and endless presentations, I've gotten much better at speaking in public and I think I'd be much better at it now. I was half-considering trying it again to build up a vacation fund, but I really don't care for the director - and I can't sign up under anyone else. I tried. :headache:

:lmao: Well, we do have similar interests you know. . . ;)

That is too bad that you can't go with another director. Have you looked into Tastefully Simple? It is the ingredients, not the cookware but they have some good stuff. If you like to cook you might look into it. I really don't like home parties much and don't order a whole lot but I did get quite a bit of the TS and am waiting for another party invite! I haven't been to a PC party in years and haven't seen any invites floating around. Not sure if we just don't have the sales people or the market has already bought all the stoneware they need.:confused3

Around here 31 Purses or whatever they call it is really big. I am a bagaholic so I was avoiding them like the plague but they are doing a fundraiser for our pool so I may be in big trouble!

I think it is important to make sure you have the right personality for these kinds of things. I really felt terrible for my friend that she couldn't make it work. As you point out you can have a love for the product and the know how but you have to be able to SELL-- not just the product but yourself.

I did PC about 7 years ago, but it seemed like everyone I knew already have a rep, so parties were few and far between. I LOVE the products and still buy them, but for me it wasn't a great fit.

If you are looking for a home party co I would say either PC or Tastefully Simple, as those are things people use everyday and can justify in their budgets.....expensive makeup (arbonne), baskets (Longaberger), jewerly (too many to name), candles (Partylite), adult 'toys' (Fantasia) and purses (31, I think?) are all luxury items and I know for me at least, are not part of the budget. But cooking stuff and food is, so I feel I can justify buying that more over the other items, esp since PC is QUALITY stuff!

I did Fantasia until I got preggo with this baby, but the trends of sales have been going down, people are going to the parties (for a fun night with the gals) but not buying, so really it became a waste of time for me to go do a party and MAYBE make money.

Good luck if you decide to do it...
